Ration shops will be fully operational from tomorrow

Thiruvananthapuram: The arrangement made during the working hours of ration shops has been withdrawn. From tomorrow, all ration shops in the state will be open from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 3 pm to 6.30 pm, Food and Civil Supplies Minister GR Anil said.


The minister pointed out that although the working hours of ration shops were fixed in each of the districts, it did not affect the distribution of rations in any way. As of yesterday this month, 50,62,323 people (55.13 percent) had received rations. 4,46,440 people bought rations till 6.30 pm yesterday alone. Until the 25th of last month, 52 percent of cardholders received rations.

Thiruvananthapuram: The new restrictions imposed in the state to curb the spread of covid will come into effect from today.

Controls have been tightened in Thiruvananthapuram, which is in the C category, where the spread of the disease is severe. The suggestion is that there should be no mob of any kind in the district. Theaters, gymnasiums, and swimming pools will be closed. A maximum of 20 people can attend the posthumous ceremony.

Ceremonies in places of worship should be conducted online. All classes will be online except for the final year of the tenth, twelfth, undergraduate, and graduate courses. Tuition classes are not allowed. Thiruvananthapuram is the first district to be included in the C category.

Eight districts in the ‘B’ category

According to the new criteria, more than 25 percent of hospitalized patients will be included in District ‘C’ when covid is affected. The eight districts with the highest prevalence of the disease are also included in the B category. Ernakulam, Thrissur, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Alappuzha, Idukki, Palakkad, and Wayanad districts are in the ‘B’ category.

Public events and religious gatherings were banned in these districts as well. In these districts too, only 20 people are allowed for wedding and posthumous ceremonies. Public meetings were banned in all nine districts.

Three districts in the ‘A’ category

Kannur, Malappuram, and Kottayam districts are in the ‘A’ category. Up to 50 people can attend weddings and funerals here. Kasargod and Kozhikode, which have a low prevalence of the disease, are not included in any category. However, the covid Review has suggested that distance should be ensured for marriages and in other gatherings.

Kochi: For the first time in history, the High Court held a night sitting. The ship, which was anchored in the Kochi port was prevented from leaving the port at 11.30 last night and held the online sitting. Justice Devan Ramachandran heard the case in a special sitting as the ship was leaving the port this morning. Lawyers and court staff appeared in the case from their homes.
The cargo ship M V Ocean Rose arrived to Amabalamukal FST with Sulfur was prevented by leaving the port through the court by issuing the order.  
The action was taken following a complaint that around Rs 2.5 crore was due to supplying water to the ship.

The court was approached by Grace Yang International in Kochi. The court directed the Cochin Port Trust not to allow the ship to leave the port without paying the amount due to the company and the amount required for legal proceedings or giving a proportionate amount of this amount. In an interim order, Justice Devan Ramachandran said the petitioners could approach the court to auction the ship if they did not comply with the court order within 15 days.

Kochi: The interrogation of the accused including Dileep in the case of trying to endanger the investigating officers in the case of attacking the actress is in progress.

Extreme covid prevalence in the state; Number of patients to rise further: Health Minister

Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George has said that the number of patients will increase in the wake of the outbreak of covid in the state. Warning that the number of patients per day may be higher than at present. She said the health department was ready to face the third wave. At present, government hospitals have beds and ICU and ventilator facilities for intensive care. These have not been fully filled. The minister said there was sufficient stock of medicines and asked private hospitals to provide accurate information. Dhaka: Jayasurya has been selected as the Best Actor in the Asian Competition at the Dhaka International Film Festival. Jayasurya won the award for her performance in Ranjith Shankar’s Sunny. Jayasuriya and Ranjith Shankar could not attend the function.

About 220 films from 70 countries were selected for the festival in various categories. ‘Sunny’ is Jayasurya’s 100th film. He is the only character in the film who tells the story in the background. The jury judged that Jayasurya played a very challenging role beautifully.

Actress Attack Case; Prosecution in High Court seeking more time to testify the witness

Kochi: The prosecution has sought more time in the high court to cross-examine new witnesses in the case of the attack on the actress. The prosecution told the high court that the cross-examination of new witnesses should be adjourned till the completion of further investigation and that further investigation is proceeding effectively.

The High Court had directed that the examination of new witnesses should be completed within 10 days. Two of the new witnesses are from neighboring states. Another was being treated for covid, the prosecution said.

Kochi:  The government has ordered an inquiry into the death of transgender Ananya. The government has appointed an additional director of the health department. The order said that the investigation report should be submitted within a month. The inquiry was ordered following a complaint that an error in the gender reassignment surgery led Ananya to commit suicide.

Ananya Kumari Alex committed suicide last July. Ananya had come to the scene with the allegation that the doctor had made a mistake in the gender reassignment surgery. This is followed by suicide. He is the first transgender radio jockey in Kerala.

Ananya underwent gender reassignment surgery in 2020. However, the woman complained that she was still unable to work even a year after the surgery. She said she could not get up more than the allotted time and had a lot of physical problems. Ananya could not even go to work due to health issues and had difficulty with even the basics.
