Detail Explanation of REVIEW

Won Plus Factors:

A film by Prithviraj Sukumaran, that is just enough to grab our attention and his excellence in directing the movie is something we have witnessed through the blockbuster movie Lucifer. His second film Bro Daddy is all about fun, an awesome entertainer which guarantees the viewers an unforgettable experience. How Prithviraj Sukumaran had made this film is the highlight, without making errors he had brilliantly executed the whole film as per the plot and screenplay. Nowadays in Malayalam, it’s very complicated to watch a family entertaining movie but through the film, Bro Daddy Prithviraj offers us a complete package of fun and happiness. The story, screenplay and dialogues are written by Sreejith. N and Bibin Maliekal, their writing was good but the screenplay was moderate.

The feel-good components which the movie offers were pleasant, the crucial scenes which point out the family sentiments were elegant to watch with some refreshing moments. The humour tracks which the movie leaves were funny, many scenes were giving a big-time laugh and I enjoyed those comedies well. The humour also doesn’t get absurd, most of them had worked out well. The situational comedies by the central characters were also fine and among everyone, Lalu Alex had scored drastically.

The combination of Mohanlal and Prithviraj was very much entertaining, a beautiful father-son relationship was maintained with strong performance. Compared with the recent performance of Mohanlal, the character John Kattady was completely energetic, it was so happy to see the fun and joyful face of Mohanlal. Prithviraj Sukumaran as Eesho John Kattadi was impressive, his outlook and style were charming. The performance was supremely high with funny comedies and he carried the humour track authentically till the end. The romantic scenes of Prithviraj with Kalyani Priyadarshan lifted the film to carry into the main plot and their romantic relationship was favourable with cute moments. Kalyani Priyadarshan as Anna delivered a decent performance and along with her Meena as Annamma and Kaniha as Elsy Kurian also did their respective roles accurately.

Lalu Alex was the one who had surprised me very much, it’s a strong comeback. The character Kurian Maliekkal was safer in his hands and the way he performed was outstanding. Comedies, situational humour and emotional scenes were perfectly acted out and extra energy was seen on his entire performance. Importantly in the writing, the dialogue was written well, especially the sentimental conversation towards the climax happening between Mohanlal and Prithviraj. Most of the emotional dialogues electrify to show the bond, love and affection of parenthood so the emotional dialogues were thought-provoking.

Lost Minus Factors:

The first problem is the writing, the predictable way of storytelling was standing out as an issue. The script is composed of many unexpected happenings and events and all those were predictable and it is something we have seen in many movies. So the occurrences in the script don’t offer fresh ideas but the effective direction from Prithviraj makes these thoughts go away, till the end he maintains a proper balance so the movie is perfectly watchable.

At some point, the film may feel dragging, some situations weren’t written well so an unnecessary lag was crossing in my viewing experience. The emotional attachment was missing from the characters, their struggle and their pressure also the complicated situations which they are going through were not giving an emotional connection to the mind. In those parts, Prithviraj and the writers were moderate, they could have been focused more to bring a proper depth.

The story was similar to the hit Hindi movie Badhaai Ho and many movies related to the theme of Bro Daddy. So the incidents in the film were not that great, thoughts of resemblances to many other stories were causing some troubles in the viewing. I was not that much convinced with the ending, the climax felt hurried. The situation which led to the happy ending was fine but not great, an impact was missing, wow or surprising factors were not genuinely felt in the climax, still it was satisfying.

The character of Soubin Shahir was overdramatic, for comedies his role felt like a forced one. Most of his humour felt childish, and the character was unnecessarily brought at many crucial points.

What’s Hot?

1: Direction of Prithviraj Sukumaran.

2: Combination of Mohanlal and Prithviraj.

3: Amazing cool performance of Lalu Alex.

4: Entertaining fun comedies.

What’s Not?

1: Length of the film.

2: Predictable way of storytelling.

3: Character of Soubin Shahir.

4: Ending lacks a punch.

What’s behind the film

The whole movie was enriched with the best technical quality, the team behind the camera had made a tremendous effort to make this movie as an entertainer. The cinematography by Abhinandan Ramanujam shined gloriously from the beginning, his various methods of shots and the undertaking aspects according to the plot looked authentic. The luxury livings of the main characters were captured nicely, their family culture and their living conditions were nice for the story. The camera shots to capture the various emotions of the actions were also adequately set by the cinematographer. The editing by Akhilesh Mohan looks crisp and clear with perfect timings in cutting and mismatches weren’t felt in the viewing experience. Also, the transition to the next scenes was steady and the colour grading also suited well.

The film does have incredible musical work and Deepak Dev hasn’t forgotten to give his best. The song “Parayathe Vannen” sung by M.G Sreekumar and Vineeth Sreenivasan was good to hear and the matching visuals had also given a fine pleasant feel. The lyrics by Lakshmi Shrikumar fitted for the track rightly and the voice of M.G Sreekumar was delightful to hear, giving the nostalgic vibe of his previous hits. The title track “Vannu Pokum sung by Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran made a gleam through their voice, their singing combination felt interesting. The final song “Kanakuyile” was enriched with positive vibes and happiness of love and family sentiments and the beats of the song were also amazing to hear.

Final Verdict

So overall to conclude Bro Daddy had given me an above-average experience, it was satisfying for a one time watch. The predictable normal script is the problem of Bro Daddy but Prithviraj Sukumaran as a director through his direction makes the film Bro Daddy an enjoyable ride. The performance of Lalu Alex, Mohanlal and Prithviraj makes the movie entertaining and to watch with our families Bro Daddy is a cool choice but still try watching with fewer expectations.

  • FINAL VERDICT: ABOVE AVERAGE ENTERTAINER.
  •  RATING: 3.5/5
