Chennai: Another death in the country due to lack of oxygen. In Tamil Nadu, 11 people died due to a lack of oxygen. The deceased was being treated at a government hospital. According to relatives, the government hospital in Chengalpet was short of oxygen for two hours in the morning. The dead included those being treated for Covid infection. Oxygen shortage is severe in Karnataka too. Yesterday alone, six patients who were being treated at hospitals in Bengaluru and Kalaburagi died of asphyxiation.
Thiruvananthapuram: The spread of covid in Kerala is expected to intensify by mid-May. The government is considering a one-week shutdown. Covid has killed 248 people in the state in five days. TPR was above 25 in eight districts. According to a team of experts at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, the number of patients will remain high for another two weeks.
Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts. The team of experts estimates that the number of patients in need of inpatient treatment in Thiruvananthapuram could reach 4000 per day. There is also a proposal to increase the number of ICU beds accordingly. The rate of confirmed cases in the state is 10.31. The national average is only 6.92. In Malappuram, Ernakulam, and Kozhikode districts, out of 100 people tested, about 30 are diagnosed with the disease. The situation is critical in Thrissur, Alappuzha, and Kottayam districts.
It is at this point that the government is considering a week-long total shutdown. The Department of Health has also recommended a lockdown. It is learned that the decision will be taken on Monday after looking at the effect of the strict restrictions till Sunday.
Thiruvananthapuram: A temporary solution has been found to the vaccine shortage in the state. The crisis was resolved with the arrival of four lakh doses of covishield vaccine from the central government yesterday. The vaccine which reached Thiruvananthapuram yesterday will be distributed to Ernakulam and Kozhikode regions today. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reiterated yesterday that the responsibility for giving the covid vaccine lies with the Central Government.
At the same time, strict restrictions on the covid defense remain in place in the state. Strict control similar to the lockdown has been introduced in the state since yesterday in the wake of the escalation of the covid cases. The restriction is until Sunday. Police inspections have also been tightened.

Dubai: UAE and Oman extend the ban on Indian passengers indefinitely as the coronavirus cases increased over 2 lakh. According to the UAE Civil Aviation Authority, the ban applies to domestic and foreign flights from India and transit passengers via India. Passengers who have been in India for the last 14 days will not be allowed. However, Indians who have spent the last 14 days of the journey in other countries have access. Transit flights to India via UAE will not be banned.
Embassy officials, Golden Visas, and business travelers are not barred. However, upon arrival in the country, they have 10 days of quarantine and PCR examination. In addition, only those with a PCR negative certificate who have traveled 72-48 hours during the journey will be allowed entry.
In addition to India, Oman has banned travelers from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Britain, Egypt, the Philippines, Sudan, Lebanon, South Africa, Brazil, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Ethiopia. Those who cross the country within 14 days are also barred. The ban is for an indefinite period from Friday. Omani citizens, diplomats, health workers, and their families are excluded from the decision.
The UAE and Oman banned Indian flights on April 24 in the wake of reports of the genetically modified virus in India. Emirates Airlines Travels has been told that the UAE ban has been extended to May 14, but the ban was extended indefinitely by the Disaster Management Authority on Tuesday.

Thiruvananthapuram: Four lakh doses of covishield vaccine will reach the state today. 75000 doses of covaxin have also reached Kerala.

Very few doses of the vaccine are given in many districts. It is in this context that another four lakh doses of covshield vaccine are coming to Kerala.
Meanwhile, those who take the first dose still have problems with the Cowin app. It takes days and effort to get space and time. The app is set up for registration for a very short period as the vaccine is not available as per the demand of Kerala. However, vaccination of those over 18 years of age has not yet begun. It is not clear where that will begin. The private sector has not been notified either. No suggestion has been received from the Center in this regard.
Thiruvananthapuram: 10 special train services to Kerala have been canceled due to the drop in passenger numbers due to the severe expansion of Covid. These services have been canceled from May 6 to 15. At present, passengers who have booked tickets for these trains will be reimbursed.
Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee will be sworn in as West Bengal Chief Minister on Wednesday. This is Mamata Banerjee’s third term as Bengal Chief Minister. Traders at vegetable and fish markets should keep a distance of 2 meters, which can be used to sell home-delivered fish. Wear 2 masks and gloves if possible. Can only work for hospitals, media houses, telecom, IT, milk, newspaper distribution, water supply, and electric-related companies. Covid vaccination centers are not barred. Home delivery to hotels and restaurants only.
