Kochi: Non-Banking Financial Institutions (NBFCs) in the state have been given permission to remain open from 10 am to 1 pm during the lockdown period, the Association of Non-Banking Finance Companies said in a press release.

Thomas George Muthoot, chairman of the association, said in a statement that the companies would adhere to strict code protocol and that the health and safety of their customers and employees was paramount.

He also urged the users to make the best use of the various digital services provided by almost all the leading NBFCs in Kerala. The back-end operations of the respective institutions will be geared towards the smooth functioning of the branches and digital services. Apps also offer loan repayment and loan top up. Various services can also be availed through call center and SMS.

The association will support the steps taken by the central and state governments to combat the spread of Covid.

Lockdown; KSRTC will run more long-distance services today

Thiruvananthapuram: With the announcement of lockdown in the state from May 8, KSRTC will run more long-distance services today. CMD Biju Prabhakar also directed all unit officers to run more services without any complaints as per the passenger rush, including long-distance services, as there is a possibility of experiencing passenger congestion especially today and tomorrow in the wake of the announcement of the lockdown.

If required, three buses will be operated from Bangalore to Kerala for emergency evacuation as per the government instructions. The CMD said the service would be run from there if the Karnataka government allows it. The CMD said the maximum number of buses will be in service from tonight to tomorrow night as per the demand of long-distance commuters.

Lockdown: 30 train services canceled in the state

Thiruvananthapuram: The Railways has canceled various train services in the state due to the lockdown announced for May 8 to 16. As many as 30 services were canceled by Southern Railway till 31st of this month.

He also said that the use of public places for exercise such as walking, running and various sports should be strictly avoided and the house and home environment should be used.
