Actor and cultural activist VK Sreeraman has revealed the highlights of the emotional speech delivered by superstar Mohanlal during the recent, tumultuous General Body meeting of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA). Taking to social media, Sreeraman shared Mohanlal’s words from memory, emphasizing the core message of self-reflection and humanity.
According to Sreeraman, Mohanlal urged the members to indulge in self-criticism and strive to correct themselves to become better human beings.
Excerpts from Mohanlal’s speech, as shared by VK Sreeraman:
“Thirty years ago, when we attempted to form this association, the primary goal was to create a charitable institution that would support the lives of actors. Through collective effort, we have largely achieved that goal. There are many among us who have fallen on hard times and struggled to move forward; helping them is the main objective of this organization, and we are fulfilling it now. No other film industry has a similar association.
Even today, when I watch some of my old movies, my eyes well up because many who shared the screen with me in those scenes are no longer with us. We must be ready for self-criticism. We should be able to correct ourselves and become better human beings.”
Sreeraman added a note stating that since he wrote this down from memory, the exact phrasing might vary slightly, but the underlying essence remains exactly what the superstar conveyed. The emotional address by Mohanlal came at a time when the association witnessed high drama, culminating in the mass resignation of President Shwetha Menon and the entire executive committee.
