Washington: The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a gun control bill. The bill was passed by a majority of 204 out of 223. But the proposals in the bill are unlikely to be approved by the Senate and become law. The bill also proposes to raise the age limit for purchasing semi-automatic rifles and ban the sale of firearms capable of more than 15 rounds.
”We cannot save every life but Republican lawmakers have been vocal in their opposition to gun control, Veronica Escobar, a Texas Democrat, said.
In the Senate, where a bill needs the support of 10 Republicans to gain legitimacy, most of the work to find general principles in legislation is done. Democratic and Republican senators have been meeting to discuss legislation. But it is noteworthy that five of the Republican delegates who took part in the debate are not running in the 2026 election and one will retire in January.
