Maharashtra rains; The death toll has risen to 83 and 353 have been displaced

Mumbai: As heavy rain continues in Maharashtra, the death toll due to the monsoon has risen to 83. 6 people have lost their lives in the last 24 hours. Two people are missing. 95 people were relocated. So far 353 people have been evacuated. Ghatcharoli was the worst affected.
Schools and colleges declared a holiday in Uttar Maharashtra’s Nashik. Residents and traders in flood-prone areas have been asked to move to safer places.

The district administration informed us that road traffic has been disrupted in many villages due to floods. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that necessary steps have been taken to ensure the safety of the people. The Chief Minister said that the assistance of the State Disaster Management Force has also been reached in the affected areas. As many as 7 houses were destroyed while the road traffic to 8 villages of Palghar district was blocked.

A red alert has been announced in five districts of Maharashtra because of the possibility of heavy rain. An orange alert is in place for Mumbai and Thane till Thursday.

Gujarat Riot Case; Former IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt arrested

Ahmedabad:  Former IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt, who is in jail, has been arrested in a new case taken after the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Gujarat riots case. The arrest was made by the Special Investigation Team of the Gujarat Police. The police accused Sanjeev Bhatt of implicating innocent people in the 2002 Gujarat riots case.

It is indicated that the arrest is in the case of conspiring to trap innocent people in the riot case. Sanjay Bhatt has been lodged in Palanpur Jail since 2018 in a case 27 years ago. Deputy Commissioner Chaityana Mandilik said that Sanjeev Bhatt was arrested from Palanpur Jail on a transfer warrant. Last month, a special team was appointed to investigate the case of fake evidence in the Gujarat riots.
After Teesta Setalwad and RB Sreekumar, Sanjeev Bhatt is the third person to be arrested recently in connection with the Gujarat riots. The arrest of Teesta and Sreekumar came after the Supreme Court criticized Teaster’s interference in the judgment that gave a clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Gujarat riots case and Home Minister Amit Shah made serious allegations. The police had prepared an FIR under sections 468 and 471 of the IPC.

Kochi: Police have started an investigation against former DGP R Srilekha. It will be decided later whether to take up the case. The investigation was initiated after a complaint filed by social activist Kusumam Joseph. Srilekha’s YouTube video will be examined as part of the preliminary investigation.

The police informed that a decision will be taken on whether to file a case after the preliminary investigation. Srilekha revealed that she knows that many women in the film industry were blackmailed and tortured by Pulsar Suni. The complaint alleges that Srilekha did not take action despite getting knowledge of the criminal offense.

Failure to file a case after a crime has been committed is a serious offense under the Indian Penal Code. Many crimes could have been prevented if a case had been filed against Pulsar Suni. The complaint also states that it is shocking information that the woman police officer did not take action.

Srilekha IPS made the controversial allegations through her own YouTube channel. The former DGP’s video argued that Dileep was not involved in the case of assault on the actress. The disclosure is in support of Dileep, the accused in the case.

Mumbai: The IMD has warned that there is a possibility of heavy rain in the eastern districts of Maharashtra in the coming days.
In the state, Kolhapur, Palghar, Nashik, Pune, and Ratnagiri districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall till July 14, the meteorological department said. A red alert has been declared in these areas. A warning has also been issued in Mumbai for the next 3 days. A total of 76 people have died and 838 houses have been damaged due to incessant rains in Maharashtra. Deaths were caused by lightning, landslides, and falling trees. About 125 cattle have also died, the State Disaster Management Authority said.

Three people are also reported missing in the Gadchiroli district. The continued heavy rains have caused the water level of several rivers in Nashik district to rise. Mumbai and neighboring areas have been reporting moderate rainfall for the past few days. But the rains are expected to intensify in the coming days. An orange alert has been announced in the city.

Heavy rains continued in Nashik district and the water levels of many rivers rose and many temples located near the Godavari river were inundated.

A statement issued by the District Information Office (DIO) said that in the last three days, three persons were swept away in the Gadchiroli district of eastern Maharashtra and their bodies were later recovered. According to the report, 353 people from 129 places have been shifted to safer places due to heavy rain.

Rain warning has been issued in the districts except Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta. Yellow alert today in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
