Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has said that there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in the state till Monday. A yellow alert has been announced in various districts due to heavy rain.

A yellow alert has been announced in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts tomorrow and in Idukki, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts on Saturday. 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours.

At the same time, the Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is no hindrance to fishing in the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts. Cyclone Mandus formed in the Bay of Bengal. The cyclone will make landfall over Tamil Nadu- Puducherry coast and the south Andhra Pradesh coast by midnight tomorrow. As part of this, heavy rains are possible for two days in various parts of Tamil Nadu, according to the warning.

Kozhikode: The court rejected the anticipatory bail plea filed by former bank manager MP Rijil, accused in the Kozhikode Punjab National Bank fraud case. The judgment of the Kozhikode District Sessions Court in the case is over. The accused Rijil is absconding in the case which is being investigated by the District Crime Branch. The investigation team has issued a lookout notice for him. The crime branch also conducted an inspection at the PNB branch in Eranhipalam where Rijil last worked. The police, who are searching for Rijil, are also continuing to gather evidence.

It has been revealed that Rs 21.29 crore was diverted from 17 accounts including Kozhikode Corporation. Rijil has no money in his account. It is reported that the stolen crores were spent on online gambling. Of the loss, more than 10 crore rupees belong to the Kozhikode Corporation. Irregularities were also found in the accounts of 9 private individuals.

School Festival logo released

Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister V Sivankutty released the logo of the 61st State School Arts Festival to Public Works Minister P A Muhammad Riaz. The Festival will be held in Kozhikode from January 3rd to 7th. The logo prepared by Mohammad Rasheed from Karakulam, Thiruvananthapuram was chosen.

The logo has been prepared by including the symbols of the fairs and the symbol of the district where the fair is held.

Around 14000 contestants from higher secondary and high school categories are participating in 239 events this year. There are 96 events in the High School section, 105 in the Higher Secondary section, 19 in the Sanskrit Festival, and 19 in the Arabic Arts Festival.

IFFK: Online reservation from today

Thiruvananthapuram: Online reservations for the film festival will begin today. Delegates can reserve movies by logging on to the festival’s official website www.iffk.in or through the IFFK app downloaded from Play Store. Movies should be booked 24 hours in advance. Reservation will be allowed from 8 am till the seats are full.

Seats should be booked using the registration number, password, and movie code. Reservation is allowed in all theaters except Nishagandhi Open Theatre. A maximum of three movies can be booked per day.

Tagore, Kairali, and Aries Plex theaters will have reservation help desks. Academy Secretary C Ajoy informed that those who are unable to reserve online have been provided with help desks to book seats.

The petition against Saji Cherian was dismissed

Chengannur:  The High Court dismissed the petition against Chengannur MLA Saji Cherian. A division bench comprising the Chief Justice dismissed the petition seeking the removal of the MLA. The petition alleged that he had made an unconstitutional speech.

The petitioners alleged that Saji Cherian, who was a minister in Mallapally on July 3, spoke disparagingly of the Constitution. Biju P Cheruman, a resident of Malappuram, and BSP state president Vayalar Rajeevan have also demanded that Saji Cherian be removed from the post of MLA. The court heard the detailed arguments in the petition and rejected the demand of the petitioners. The court clarified that there is no legal provision to remove Saji Cherian from the post of MLA.

The bench presided over by the Chief Justice had already pointed out that the demand in the petition is prima facie not tenable. The court observed that the petition could not be accepted in the file and decided to hear the argument after knowing the government’s stand on the matter.

Saji Cherian resigned as minister after the speech became controversial. 

Preparations complete; The International Film Festival begins on Friday

Preparations for the 27th Kerala International Film Festival have been completed. The city of Thiruvananthapuram is ready to welcome more than 12000 delegates, filmmakers, and film lovers. 184 films from more than 70 countries will be screened in 14 theatres, including the main venue Tagore Theatre, in the eight-day fair.

9600 seats have been arranged for the fair in various theatres. Nishagandhi, an open theater with 2500 seats, is the largest exhibition venue. Major films including the midnight screening of Satan’s Slaves 2 Communion will be screened here. The film will be screened at midnight on the fourth day of the fair. Nishagandhi has 4K technology prepared by Christy Digital. The opening and closing ceremonies of the fair will also be held on Nisha Gandhi.

As part of the fair, various types of art and cultural programs will be staged. At the main stage, Tagore Theatre, there will also be musical evenings by the Tamil rock band Jaanu, Pradeep Kumar, and others. World’s first fully electric barge in Kerala

Measles is rampant in the Malappuram district; Health Department has intensified prevention activities

Malappuram: The health department has intensified preventive measures against the spread of measles in the Malappuram district. A meeting will be held today at the Collectorate including representatives of religious organizations. The meeting is being held to quickly complete the vaccination to prevent the spread of the disease.

In the background of an increasing number of children confirmed to have measles in the district, prevention activities are being intensified. RBI hikes repo rate
