Measles is rampant in the Malappuram district; Health Department has intensified prevention activities

Malappuram: The health department has intensified preventive measures against the spread of measles in the Malappuram district. A meeting will be held today at the Collectorate including representatives of religious organizations. The meeting is being held to quickly complete the vaccination to prevent the spread of the disease.

In the background of an increasing number of children confirmed to have measles in the district, prevention activities are being intensified. According to the health department, the disease has been reported in around 70 local institutions in the district and it is an indication that there will be further spread.

Immunization camps are currently in progress at selected schools. The district administration decides to organize these camps in more schools and to hold meetings with the participation of representatives of religious organizations.

The health department also says that people avoid vaccination due to various types of misunderstandings. The DMO said that the spread of the disease can be prevented only if vaccination is completed to the maximum extent.
