Thiruvananthapuram:  Isolated heavy rain is likely in the state today. Yellow alert has been declared in 11 districts today. Vigilance has been issued in districts other than Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta. The cyclonic vortex over north Tamil Nadu, south Karnataka and north Kerala has entered the southeast Arabian Sea.

Meanwhile, the Central Meteorological Department has issued a warning saying that people should not go fishing in the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts. The warning stated that there is a possibility of strong winds and bad weather along the Kerala-Karnataka coasts with a speed of 40 to 45 km per hour and on some occasions up to 55 km per hour.

Kollam: The High Court rejected the plea of Kiran Kumar, the accused in the Vimsaya case. A plea to stay the execution of the sentence was dismissed pending the decision of the appeal challenging the order of the Kollam Sessions Court.

The Kollam Sessions Court sentenced Vismaya’s husband Kirankumar to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of twelve and a half lakh rupees. Although the court sentenced the accused to 25 years imprisonment on various charges, the court had clarified that it is enough to serve the punishment together. In his appeal, Kiran said that he was convicted without even sufficient evidence.

On June 21, 2021, Vismaya was found dead at her husband’s house on Shastamkota road. Vismaya and Kiran Kumar got married on May 30, 2020. The court found Kiran Kumar guilty on May 24.

Sabarimala: Three pilgrims died at Sannidhanam due to a heart attack. S S Sajeev (54) of Cherthala, Vayalar, Pattanakkad Lakshmi Bhawan, Andhra Pradesh Chittoor A Venkatesu (35), Tamil Nadu Thiruvannamalai and Ramesh Chandambi (50) died.
Sajeev was brought to the Pampa Government Hospital after suffering from respiratory distress, but he died.
Venkateshu suffered a heart attack yesterday morning while climbing Neelimala. Ramesh Chandambi died at 10 pm yesterday.

Sabarimala: Steps taken to control the crowd at Sabarimala. The daily number of pilgrims is limited to ensure a satisfactory darshan for the pilgrims. Darshan time was extended by one hour. More facilities will be provided for parking. Daily darshan will be limited to 90,000. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting called by the Chief Minister.

The Devaswom Minister will also participate in weekly high-level meetings and evaluate the procedures. Sabarimala is experiencing a huge rush this time as all the restrictions during the covid era have been lifted. The rush was uncontrollable in the past few days. In this situation, the government aims to ensure that the pilgrims have a satisfactory darshan and return safely.

Cyclone Mandaus, which made landfall in Tamil Nadu, has weakened into a cyclonic system, but the westerly winds that are part of it are responsible for the continued rains in the state. It is believed that the cyclone which has made landfall over Tamil Nadu will enter the Arabian Sea via Karnataka-North Kerala in the next few hours. As the cyclone moves away, rains will also ease.

Thiruvananthapuram: Port construction resumed at Vizhiinjam. Following the anti-port strike, the construction work was stopped for 113 days. As the strike ended, the work resumed.

A group of fishermen under the leadership of the Latheen Archdiocese started a strike against the port when the construction of Vizhinjam International Port was 80 percent complete. In the first phase, the construction work was not interrupted, but later the construction was completely stalled. Today, the construction of the port has resumed after a gap of 113 days. The construction work resumed after the Chief Minister directly intervened and ended the strike. Lorries arrived with stones early in the morning. Stones from Tamil Nadu will arrive within 2 days. Barge operation will also start tomorrow.

At present, the work of 1400 meters of the breakwater, which is 2960 meters long, has been completed. The piling required for berth construction has also been completed. 600 meters of 1700 meters of Port Approach Road has been completed. Port operation building stands have also been completed. Construction of 2 bridges which are part of Port Approach Road has also been completed. 60 percent of the construction of the homestead has been completed so far. Gate Complex, Port Substation 33kv/11kv, Workshop building is being prepared for the inauguration.
