iPhone controversy: Customs to send another notice to Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s wife Vinodini

Kochi: Customs is ready to send another notice to Vinodini, wife of CPM politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan in the iPhone controversy. The move comes after a mobile phone was found to have been used in connection with a controversial case involving dollar and gold smuggling. The notice was sent to the Kochi customs office at 11 am today, but the notice was sent again in the absence.

Unitac owner Santosh Eepan had said that he had bought six iPhones as per the instructions of Swapna Suresh to get the contract for Life Mission. Customs found that a SIM card taken in the name of Vinodini Balakrishnan was used in one of the phones. Following this, a notice was issued to them asking them to appear for questioning.

Bus overturns in the gorge, Himachal Pradesh; Eight killed, 11 injured

Shimla: Eight people were killed when a private bus plunged into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district. Eleven people were injured. The accident took place in the Teesa sub-division on Wednesday morning.
A private bus traveling from Chamba to Teesa overturned the gorge at a depth of about 200 meters.
All the 11 injured have been shifted to Chamba Medical College. Four of them are in critical condition. Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Submarine INS Karanj was commissioned

Fire in Kolkata; 7 dead, including policeman and firefighters

Kolkata: Seven killed in Kolkata fire. The fire broke out in an office building on Strand Road in central Kolkata. The dead included four firefighters, a policeman, and a railway security officer.

The bodies of five of the seven dead were found in an elevator in the building. About 25 fire engines arrived on the scene and are trying to put out the blaze. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has arrived in the state. Compensation of Rs 10 lakh each has been announced for the families of the deceased.

Representatives of Devaswom Boards, including Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu, told the media. All Devaswom Boards agree that Pooram should be held without any change in the rituals. Delegates told the media that they would not allow a reduction in the number of elephants. Thrissur Pooram is on April 23.

The Paramekavu-Thiruvambadi temples and the eight temples are of the view that there will be no compromise in the conduct of Pooram.
