Idukki Dam will be opened tomorrow; Minister Roshi Augustine said that precautionary measures have been taken

The decision was taken to raise the shutters of the Idukki dam at 11 am tomorrow due to strong water flow. The two shutters are raised 50 cm apart. 64 families will be relocated. A red alert was declared at Idukki Dam at 6 pm today. The district administration has issued a vigilance order to the residents near the Idukki dam. The shutters are raised 3 cm and 100 cum of water flows out. One lakh of water will flow out every second. The water level will reach the upper rule curve at 7 am at present. The District Collector was directed to make adequate preparations.

Heavy rains: PSC undergraduate primary exams postponed

Thiruvananthapuram: Due to heavy rains, the Kerala Public Service Commission has postponed the degree level examinations scheduled to be held on October 21 and 23, 2021.


The Assistant Engineer Examination to be held on October 21 this month and the Graduation Level First Level Preliminary Examination scheduled to be held on October 23 have been postponed. However, there is no change in the second phase of the preliminary examination which will be held on the 30th.
Updated exam dates will be announced later.

Heavy rain warning, red alert at Pamba Dam: Devotees not allowed in Thulam month puja at Sabarimala

Pathanamthitta: A precautionary measure has been issued on the banks of Pamba in case two shutters of the Kakki dam are opened. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in Pamba, Ranni, Aranmula, and Chengannur areas soon. The water level in Pamba is likely to rise by up to 10 cm, the district collector said.

Devotees are not allowed to enter Sabarimala for the Thulam puja as the water level in Pamba is dangerously high. The decision comes in the wake of warnings that heavy rains will continue in the state in the coming days.

Under the current circumstances, the Devaswom Board has requested the return of Ayyappa devotees who have been waiting at various centers in the state for Sabarimala darshan.

Red Alert on 10 dams in the state

Pathanamthitta: Revenue Minister K Rajan has announced a red alert for 10 dams in the state. A red alert has been issued for Kaki, Sholayar, Mattupetty, Kundala, Kallarkutty, Peringalkuthu, Moozhiyar, Kallar, Chimney, and Peechi dams. Orange alerts have been issued for five dams of the Irrigation Department and three dams of the Electricity Department.

He was speaking at a press conference after the review meeting in Pathanamthitta.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha said the strike would continue till the farmers get justice. Farmers across the country blockaded the railways demanding strong action against the culprits in the Lakhimpur massacre.

The strike was called by farmers’ organizations demanding the resignation of Union Home Minister Ajay Mishra. Farmers across the country blocked the train from 10 am to 4 pm.

‘Rail roko’ agitation intensified in states including Punjab and Haryana. About 50 trains were blocked by farmers at 130 places on the Northern Railway. About 90 trains were partially halted. 23 trains were suspended and other trains were diverted. A ban has been announced in Lucknow following the farmers’ strike.

While Ajay Mishra remains in the ministry, the farmers are intensifying their agitation by pointing out that a proper investigation into the Lakhimpur massacre will not take place. The farmers have stated that the Mahapanchayat will join Varanasi and Lucknow in the coming days.

The Supreme Court will reconsider the Lakhimpur case on October 20. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha said the strike would continue till the farmers get justice.
