Death toll rises to 47 in Uttarakhand cloudburst

New Delhi: The death toll from the Uttarakhand cloudburst has risen to 47. The search for the missing continues. It is reported that many more are yet to be found. Heavy rains are still being recorded in the area.

The cloudburst occurred at Ramghat in Nainital. In Nainital alone, 25 people are reported dead. The death toll is likely to rise further as the rains intensify.

People are stranded in different parts of the state. More than 100 people are trapped in Nainital. Many roads are submerged. The low-lying areas were also flooded. All the shutters of Nanak Sagar Dam are open.

The government has banned travel to various pilgrimage sites in the wake of the floods. Many pilgrims are stranded at the Badrinath temple after the landslide disrupted traffic on the national highway. The rising water level in the Nandakini River is also a cause for concern. The rescue operation is being carried out by police, SDRF, and NDRF teams. The Air Force and three helicopters are on the scene for the rescue operation. About a thousand people have been evacuated from different parts of Uttarakhand.

The Prime Minister and Home Minister assessed the situation in Uttarakhand. According to the Central Meteorological Department, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan will continue to receive rains till May 23. Widespread rainfall in the northern states is due to the formation of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal.

Fuel prices rise again

Thiruvananthapuram: Four days later, fuel prices increased again. Diesel prices have been hiked by 37 paise and petrol by 35 paise. In Kochi, diesel is priced at Rs 100. 22 paise per liter and petrol at Rs. 106. 50 paise per liter.

In Kozhikode, diesel and petrol are priced at Rs. 100 38 paise and 106 rupees 67 paise respectively. In Thiruvananthapuram, diesel costs Rs 102 for 5 paise and petrol Rs. 108 for 13 paise. With this, diesel prices have crossed Rs. 100 in all the districts of the state.

Jammu and Kashmir clash; Army killed two terrorists

Srinagar: Indian Army killed two militants in clashes in Shopian, Jammu, and Kashmir. The clash took place in the Dragad area this morning. One of the dead has been identified as Adil Wani. According to the Kashmir Zone Police, he is accused of the murder of a local in Pulwama.

The search is still ongoing in the Shopian area. There have been eleven clashes with terrorists in the last few days. Fifteen terrorists have been killed by the army in two weeks. The BSF has seized a large cache of weapons near the international border in Ferozepur, Punjab. More than two dozen pistols and ammunition were seized. The BSF said that these were made in Pakistan.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in 12 districts from tomorrow. So the Orange Alert was declared on Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday – Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts and on Thursday, the orange alert has been declared in the following districts- Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad.
Isolated showers are forecast. The Meteorological Department has forecast very heavy rainfall of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

The Central Water Commission has issued an orange alert on three rivers in Kerala. Orange alert has been issued in Kollam Kalladayar, Pathanamthitta Achankovilar and Thiruvananthapuram Karamanayar.

Meanwhile, the three gates of the Idukki dam on Periyar River were opened by the local authorities in Kerala to ease the pressure on the structure in the wake of heavy rainfall in the southern state.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that those living in hilly areas and river banks should be extremely careful. The Central Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in the state from Wednesday, October 20 to Saturday, October 23.

With the end of the major monsoon season, the risk of landslides, and river overflows is very high. Extreme levels of rainfall over a short period can be dangerous. Within a few hours, the risk of major accidents is high. Therefore, the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) has issued a stern directive to remain vigilant in hilly areas and river banks till the current situation returns to normal. Expert teams from the GSI and the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) have recommended that those living in uninhabitable houses must be relocated to safer camps until the warning expires. It was also suggested that those living in dangerous conditions along the river banks should be relocated until the flow of the rivers returns to normal.

Government of Tamil Nadu announces Rs.1 crore financial assistance to Kerala

Heavy rains: 16 killed in Uttarakhand

New Delhi: The death toll in three days of heavy rains in Uttarakhand has risen to 16. Three Nepalese nationals living in tents in the Pauri district have been reported killed in a landslide. A red alert was declared in Uttarakhand yesterday. The state government has advised people not to come to the state until the situation calms down.

The state government has said that no one should come to the state for tourism. The government had yesterday transferred 2,000 pilgrims to safer places. The Met Office has forecast heavy rains in South Bengal and western Uttar Pradesh. The government has also asked those stranded on the roads to Nainital to return home.

Lakhimpur Kheri massacre; Four more arrested

Lucknow: Four more arrested in connection with the murder of a farmer in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh.  BJP workers Sumit Jaiswal, Shishipal, Nandan Singh Bisht, and Satyaprakash were arrested. Bullets and a gun were seized from the hand of the arrested Satyaprakash.

With this, the number of people arrested in the case, including Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra, has increased to ten. Six others, including Ashish Mishra, were remanded in police custody on Monday. On October 3, four farmers were killed when Ashish Mishra’s SUV crashed.

Theaters will reopen in Kerala on the 25th: after a six-month

Thiruvananthapuram: It has been months since theaters open in the state. All the theaters and multiplexes closed by covid in the wake of the second wave will reopen on the 25th of this month. The crucial decision was taken today at a meeting of theater owners. Talks will be held with the theater owners and the government on the 22nd ahead of the opening of the theater.

Earlier, the government had permitted 25 theaters to open. But the theater owners had put forward some demands, including taxes. The owners demanded that the KSEB Fixed Deposit Theater be exempted from non-operational months, that the building tax be waived, and that the entertainment tax be waived. Despite some confusion, the meeting decided to reopen the theaters as per the government’s instructions.

Theaters are set to open six months later. The decision is a relief to the filmmakers, audiences, and theater staff alike who are waiting for the movies to be boxed in. At the same time, those who come to the theater and the staff are required to take 2 doses of the vaccine.
