School to reopen on June 1

Thiruvananthapuram: The academic year in the state will start from June 1, the Minister of Public Instruction V. Shivankutty informed. Admission to classes one to nine will start on April 27. The state-level entrance ceremony will be held in Thiruvananthapuram. The entrance ceremony will follow the ‘back to school’ guidelines issued during the covid period, the minister said at a press conference.

The Minister pointed out that 9,34310 new students were admitted to government schools in the state during the academic years 2017-18 to 2021-22. The activities for the next academic year have been formulated with a focus on academic improvement. The method of study will change from time to time. The Department of Education will formulate and implement a special training program to enable teachers to impart up-to-date knowledge to students. Training will be from the second week of May to the last week. 150 members of SCERT’s Resource Group have been assigned to prepare the module. They will train more than 9,000 teachers belonging to the State Resource Group. Teachers, who state resource persons, will train 6,200 people in the districts. It will then train 58,000 teachers in the lower primary section, more than 40,000 teachers in the upper primary section, and more than 44,000 teachers in the high school section.

An online system will be set up for teacher training arrangements. Kite is developing an online training and management system for this. The portal will include online registration for trainees, scheduling, attendance, batch rotation, certificate preparation for participants, and the facility to collect training feedback. It trains 134,000 teachers in grades one through ten. Special training will be imparted to Higher Secondary and Vocational Higher Secondary teachers.

Heavy rains in Kerala for next three hours: Alert issued in Kollam

Thiruvananthapuram: The Met Office has forecast isolated heavy showers in the state today. The Central Meteorological Department has forecast thundershowers in Kerala for the next five days.

The low-pressure area extends from North Karnataka to the Kanyakumari region and currently extends from North Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar. Under this effect, there is a possibility of rain in Kerala. In the meantime, a yellow alert was declared in Kollam. Isolated showers are likely in the hilly areas of Kozhikode, Kasaragod, and Wayanad districts. The Met Office said there was a possibility of strong winds and thundershowers along with rain.

Rainfall is forecast to be 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. There will be thundershowers in the next 3 hours.

Lalu Prasad Yadav granted bail in fodder scam case

Ranchi: RJD leader and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav have been granted bail in a fodder scam case. Bail was granted in the fifth case related to the fodder scam. Bail was granted by the Jharkhand High Court. The verdict comes in the wake of a scam in the Toronto Treasury. The CBI opposed the bail application but the court granted bail.

Lalu Prasad, who has already been convicted in four other cases in the fodder scam, was the accused in the fifth and final case. The action is in the fodder scam case worth Rs 950 crore.

Lalu Prasad was jailed for 14 years and fined a total of Rs 60 lakh in four cases related to the Dumka, Deoghar, and Chaibasa treasuries.
The fodder scam came to light in January 1996 during a raid on the Animal Husbandry Department. In June 1997, Prasad was charged by the CBI. The CBI had then charged Prasad and former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra.

Taking selfie near train or railway track will be punishable: Southern Railway

Chennai: From now on, taking selfies on the tracks or near the locomotives will result in a fine of Rs 2,000 and Rs 2,000, Southern Railway said. In addition, traveling by train door will be punishable by up to three months in jail or a fine of up to Rs 500.

The Delhi government has announced a free covid booster dose for people up to the age of 60

New Delhi: The Delhi government has announced that booster doses will be made available free of cost to all eligible persons between the ages of 18 and 59 years. The decision follows an increase in covid cases.

The booster dose will be available free of cost at all government centers from April 21, 2022 to all eligible beneficiaries in Delhi, a statement issued by the Delhi government said. Free vaccinations are available to people aged 18-59 years

Those over 18 years of age and those who have completed nine months after receiving the second dose are eligible for the precautionary dose.

A day before the precautionary dose, the Serum Institute of India announced that the price of covid vaccine covshield for private hospitals has been revised from Rs 600 to Rs 225 per dose.

The Center has allowed private covid vaccination centers to charge a maximum of Rs 150 for vaccination above the cost of vaccination.
The precautionary dose was available free of charge only to those over 60 years of age, health workers and senior practitioners.

Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal said the Delhi government on Wednesday made it mandatory to wear a mask in public places in view of the increase in covid cases in the national capital over the past few days. A fine of Rs 500 will be imposed on those who violate the norms, official sources said.

Meanwhile, 965 new covid cases were reported in Delhi on Thursday. Active cases are close to 3,000. In the last 24 hours, 635 covid recoveries and one death due to the virus have been reported. In Delhi, the covid positive rate was 4.71 per cent with 2,970 active cases.

Terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir: Soldier martyred, two terrorists killed

Srinagar: Another terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The attack took place near an army base in the Sunjwan area. A soldier was martyred in the ensuing clash. Three soldiers were wounded. The house was cordoned off by soldiers after intelligence emerged that terrorists were hiding in a house in the Sunjwan area.

Clashes with the army and militants are reported to be continuing in the area. Jammu and Kashmir ADGP Mukesh Singh said the clash took place during a search operation conducted by the CRPF and Kashmir Police in the area.

Meanwhile, two militants were killed in a counter-attack by troops.

BJP leader shot dead in Delhi

New Delhi: A local BJP leader has been shot dead in East Delhi. The deceased has been identified as Jitu Chaudhary, 42. His body was found in front of his house in Mayur Vihar Phase 3.

He was rushed to the hospital but died later. Police said he was shot. A few bullets were recovered from the scene. Police said they have intensified the investigation for the killers.

Srinivasan murder: Four in custody, The arrest is expected to be recorded today

Palakkad: Four persons have been remanded in custody in the murder case of RSS leader SK Srinivasan Krishnan. It is reported that the person who delivered the vehicle to the killers was arrested. There are 12 accused in the case.

The arrests are expected to be recorded today. They are being taken to a secret center for questioning. Police sources said that those who were directly involved in the incident will be arrested soon.

Srinivasan was hacked to death by a group last Saturday while sitting in his shop. Police had said that the SDPI was behind the crime. The murder was in retaliation for the recent killing of SDPI activist Elappully Zubair by a mob. RSS-BJP activists arrested in Zubair murder case.

Consumer complaints can now be filed online

Thiruvananthapuram: From now on, consumer complaints can be filed online in the state. The state level inauguration of the nationally launched E-Daakhil website will be held at 10.30 am on the 22nd under the patronage of Food and Civil Supplies Minister GR. Anil will perform. Transport Minister Antony Raju will preside over the function at the State Consumer Redressal Commission.

Complaints received online will be checked immediately and the complainant will be given a number and informed of the date and time of hearing the complaint online. Complaints will be decided within 21 days. No fee will be charged for complaints not exceeding Rs. 5 lakhs for the purchase of goods or services received.
