Story

It’s another ordinary day in the life of Ravi Abraham (Anoop Menon), successful architect and his wife Parvathy (Samvrutha), until their daughter is kidnapped and a stranger Venkatesh (Jayasurya).Venkatesh begins to assign tasks to Ravi and Parvathy much to their shock. However, the couple takes up those daunting assignments even though they will put their lives at stake. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Perfomance

Anoop Menon brings in that much needed believability into his role through yet another knock-out act.Samvrutha grabs the best role of her career as yet and chews into it with a vengeance. The results are simply splendid. But it is Jayasurya who steals the show with his very restrained manner, intensity filled eyes and looks,in a thickly grown beard.

Technical Aspects

The presentation and narrative have been worthy. The dialogues were neat, the script was simple and the screenplay was well crafted.Cinematography was appealing.Editing was alright. Costumes were neat and the art department was realistic.Pradeep Nair’s frames were remarkably well crafted.

Music

Background score adds to the tension of the movie and the songs were okay.

Direction

Arun Kumar’s Cocktail is an adaptation of Butterfly on a Wheel starring Pierce Brosnan directed by Mike Barker in 2007.The debutant director have not attempted to make too many diversions from the chill points that the original screenplay had and has certainly succeeded in planting the movie in Kerala landscapes with needed believability.

Overall verdict:

Those who haven’t seen the original Butterfly taking on the wheel, Cocktail can be an engaging watch. For, it’s a suspenseful thriller that does have its fine moments.
