The yearlong centenary celebration of Padmasri Sooranad Kunjan Pillai was inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on a flamboyant function held at Sooranad Panchayath. The gathering honored his immense contribution to Malayalam literature in the fields of research, lexicography, poetry and education. ONV Kurup and Minister K B Ganesh Kumar also presided over the function. The book authored by Dr Sooranad Rajasekharan on his contributions to Malayalam literature – ‘Sooranad Kunjanpillai : arivinte prakashagopuram’ was published on the occasion. Famous Malayalam actress Urvashi, who is part of the centenarian’s family flagged off the procession as part of the celebration.
