1993 hit movie ‘Meleparambil Aanveedu’ would soon have sequel to it. It was a hit romantic comedy directed by Rajasenan and starring Jayaram and Shobana in the lead.
The sequel will also be produced by Mani C Kappan and directed by Rajasenan.The producer and director say that almost all the stars from the original film including Jayaram and Shobana would be there in the sequel.

Story :
The movie is partly inspired from the controversial Kandahar hijack that took India by storm in 1999.The entire first half is about the build up to the hijack.The movie starts with Lokanath Sharma (Amitabh Bachchan) who is an idealistic teacher based in Ooty married to a Malayali (Sumalatha) supporting his son Soorya (Ganesh Venkitaraman), to become a brave Army commando.There is a parallel track happening where a Muslim woman (KPAC Lalitha) painfully realizes that her only son has fallen into the charm of some terrorist group.Later in the movie an Air India flight that takes off from Mumbai is hijacked by a bunch of Afghan terrorists who demand the release of their leaders from Indian jail.Major Mahadevan is called into action, and along with his sprightly group of commandoes headed by Surya (Ganesh Venkataraman),gets about his job done in no time
Perfomance :
Even though Amitabh Bacchhan has done a guest role in the movie ,still Bachchan shines and shows why he is regarded as the top actor.Mohanlal is absolutely fantastic as Major Mahadevan.Military roles are like tailor made ones for Mohanlal.Ganesh Venketram has the right looks.The rest of the cast including Sumalatha, Ragini Dwivedi and KPAC Lalitha among others have nothing much to perform in their limited roles.Even the director Major Ravi comes a tough training officer in between and looks impressive.
Technical :
The movie has been mostly shot in the habitation of Ooty and New Delhi.However all aerial shots presenting the aeroplane midair have been taken in Russia.The script has many loopholes and the dialogues are unmoving.Cinematography by Ravi Varman and Velraj is rich and colorful but climax of the film is its biggest weakness and sticks out like a sore thumb.
Director :
Major Ravi the director has scripted the movie himself.Even though his movies are usually action genre Kandahar is mainly focused on a father-son relationship and hence action takes a backseat.There are very few moments that are worth remembering.
Muisc :
The music by Shamir Tandon is pretty fine.Vivek’s background score is worth mentioning
Overall verdict :
The film has some sincere and enduring moments when every Indian would feel proud.But overall it falls par way down our anticipations considering it had two of the best actors Indian cinema has ever seen.
