STORY IDEA

The movie Jawan is about Vikram Rathore (Shah Rukh Khan), an Indian soldier who decides to do some good for society in a pretty unconventional way. He takes over a metro train and holds all the passengers hostage. He’s got some demands that he wants to make to NSG officer Narmada (Nayanthara). Turns out, Vikram’s got his sights set on Khaali Gaikwad (Vijay Sethupathi), a big-time weapon dealer and businessman. But what’s the deal with Vikram and Khaali? And how does Vikram’s son Azad (also played by Shah Rukh Khan) fit into all of this?

•DETAIL REVIEW

The film Jawan is directed by the hitmaker Atlee who had previously made super hits Tamil movies like Mersal, Theri, Bigil and Rajarani. Now he has stepped foot into the world of Bollywood with none other than Shah Rukh Khan for Jawan. The story is written by Atlee and along with S. Ramanagirivasan Atlee wrote the screenplay. Sumit Arora wrote the dialogues for the film. The movie is produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma under Red Chillies Entertainment. With a running time of 169 minutes, the film is currently running in theatres with a U/A censor certificate.

Are you tired of the same old usual flicks of Bollywood movies? Do you crave the excitement of a big-scale action flick? Look no further than Jawan, the latest masterpiece from the brilliant mind of director Atlee. And who better to star in this epic adventure than the one and only King Khan himself, Shah Rukh Khan? Jawan is the breath of fresh air that the industry has been missing for years. It’s a thrilling and engaging theatre experience that will have you on the edge of your seat, clapping and whistling in excitement. This movie is exclusively made for the big screen, with all the commercial elements that audiences crave. It’s the perfect blend of action, drama, and entertainment that will keep you engaged from start to finish. Atlee has burst onto the Bollywood scene with a bang, delivering a movie that is sure to become a blockbuster. Jawan is the answer to the question that has been on everyone’s mind – who will deliver a mass-engaging movie? The wait is over, and the answer is Atlee. Don’t miss out on this incredible cinematic experience – Jawan is a worthy choice for anyone looking for a complete, engaging theatre experience.

The film Jawan, directed by Atlee, showcased an exceptional utilization of Shah Rukh Khan’s stardom. Throughout the movie, the viewing experience was enchanted by SRK’s performance in a mass avatar, which was nothing short of perfection. Atlee’s direction and SRK’s acting left my theatre experience in awe, making it a memorable experience. The film’s success can be attributed to the way Atlee presented and utilized SRK’s stardom, which was a masterstroke. As an audience, I was able to witness the superstar SRK’s acting prowess in a new light, and it was a treat to watch. The film’s storyline and SRK’s performance complemented each other, making the film Jawn one of the best commercial movies of recent times.

Atlee, through Jawan, has managed to pack a surprising element in the movie by casting Shah Rukh Khan in a dual role. This offers audiences a double treat as they get to see SRK play two vastly different characters – Azad, a jail warden, and older Vikram Rathore. While SRK’s performance as Azad is commendable, it is his portrayal of Vikram Rathore that particularly caught my attention. From the trailer, it was evident that Jawan would be packed with action and drama, and Director Atlee has delivered on this promise without any dull moments. The film has all the components of a mass action movie, and Atlee has ensured that it is served with thrilling action sequences reminiscent of the South Indian film industry. The action sequence in the film is both exciting and thrilling, making it a must-watch for all Shah Rukh Khan fans. Atlee’s direction in portraying SRK between two vastly different characters is a testament to his filmmaking talent. He has managed to present the dual role of SRK convincingly by avoiding the overdramatic sentiments. This is similar to his direction in the film Bigil, where he showcased the double role of Vijay playing Rayappan and Michael Rayappan as the father and son.

The narrative and screenplay of Jawan are intriguing, with a plot that has the potential to captivate any audience. However, upon closer examination, it becomes apparent that the atmosphere and plot development of Jawan bear a striking resemblance to the pattern of director Atlee’s earlier Tamil films featuring Vijay. The shadows of Vijay-Atlee collaborations such as Mersal, Theri, and Bigil are palpable throughout Jawan. Nevertheless, what sets Jawan apart is its effective use of subplots. The numerous flashback scenes are particularly dominant and engaging, with each action being justified and explained in detail, thereby piquing the viewer’s curiosity. The political scandals depicted in the film are thought-provoking and are balanced with heart touching emotional flashbacks. Consequently, the hero’s motive and his gang’s quest for vengeance are authentic and well-written. Jawan is devoid of any lags, as it is replete with various events and happenings from the opening scenes to the ultimate climax, ensuring that the viewer remains fully engaged throughout the film. Another positive aspect of the script is its ability to connect with the viewer’s emotions. In the second half of the film, the most significant scenes feature Deepika Padukone, where the mother-son bond is brilliantly portrayed. The scenes of love, affection, and sacrifice of a mother are impactful and emotionally resonant, making them one of the major highlights of Jawan.

In the second half of the film Jawan, we finally learn the reason behind the rivalry between the hero and villain. This adds another positive aspect to the movie. The cause of their enmity is well-developed and keeps the story moving forward at a good pace. Despite the movie’s length of two hours and forty-nine minutes, it doesn’t feel stretched out or lagging. While the plot is predictable, the brilliant execution of Atlee overtakes the issues of predictability and keeps the viewing experience engaging. Shah Rukh Khan’s screen presence is dominant and captivating, leaving no room for the audience to anticipate what’s coming next. However, the portrayal of the villain by Vijay Sethupathi is somewhat lackluster, as the character’s development could have been more thoroughly explored. The character development of Vijay Sethupathi’s Kaalie Gaikwad’s villain role could have used a little more work, and his appearance with the white beard and hair didn’t quite live up to expectations for a dangerous villain. The face-to-face scenes between SRK and Vijay Sethupathi, particularly at the climax, could have been more thrilling. Nonetheless, the thrilling chase scene and SRK’s dual role scenes in the climax will dethrone this issue.

•PERFORMANCE OF ACTORS

Jawan is all about the magnifying performance of Shah Rukh Khan. It was his stellar show and the performance of Shah Rukh Khan was a massive treat. His style, his swag and his stunning attitude were overseen in the film and his extraordinary screen presence is worth the money you spend. We will be able to see SRK in a double role and he did a brilliant job in his acting. The two-character transformation was enormous and the way he did it would make you crazy. The various shades in his character were beautifully acted out by SRK and his action sequences were astounding. SRK’s facial expressions in the important scenes and in the emotional scenes were truly intense and I was able to see the skills of a talented actor. The combination scenes of SRK with Deepika Padukone are gorgeous. Vijay Sethupathi as the villain did a fine job, the acting was fine and the shades of a dangerous villain were seen throughout his entire performance. His outlook was weak but the overall performance was impressive. Nayanthara looked stylish and the lady cop role suited well for her attitude and body language. Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, Sanjeetha Bhattacharya, Leher Khan, and Riddhi Dogra did complete justice to their respective supporting characters and shared a great screen space with their chief Shah Rukh Khan.

MUSIC AND TECHNICAL ASPECTS

I absolutely loved the musical work in the film, composed by the talented Anirudh Ravichander. The background score was simply breathtaking and added so much depth to the movie. With six amazing songs, it’s hard to pick a favorite, but “Chaleya” sung by Arjit Singh and Shilpa Rao really touched my heart. The romantic vibes and the beautiful dance of SRK with Arjit’s soulful voice made the song even more special. I remember hearing it in the theatres and feeling completely mesmerized.

“Zinda Banda” was another incredible track that had me dancing in my seat. Anirudh Ravichander, Mangli, and SRK really brought the energy to the song, and the dance sequences were a true delight to watch. The title track of Jawan was also a standout, with its powerful beats and impact on the crucial scenes. It really elevated SRK’s screen presence and made him even more larger than life.

The background score throughout the film was simply outstanding. Anirudh Ravichander’s tunes had the strength to give a mass impact, and the emotional scenes with Deepika Padukone were made even more poignant with the appropriate fitting background score. The climax chasing scenes were loaded with fine beats, and the electrifying background scores in the opening scenes really set the tone for the rest of the film. Overall, the musical work in the film was truly exceptional and added so much to the overall experience. I can’t wait to see what Anirudh Ravichander has in store for us next!

The cinematography by G.K Vishnu was truly breathtaking, offering us an immersive and captivating theatre experience. The closeup frames of SRK were cool and stylish, while the camera movements in the action sequences added an extra layer of thrill and excitement. The climax chasing scenes were beautifully captured from the best angles, and the visuals of the song ‘Chaleya’ were filled with a romantic atmosphere that truly touched the heart. The gunfight scenes and opening scenes were simply stunning, and the cinematographer did an incredible job of setting the tone and impact of the film. The editing by Ruben was seamless, with no mismatches in the transition of scenes. Despite the movie’s 169-minute duration, the editing was precise, and the film never felt over-lengthened. The stunt choreographers also deserve special recognition for bringing some truly ravishing actions and stunts to the screen. However, the make-up department could have been more careful, as the make-up of Vijay Sethupathi was average and looked mismatched. Overall, the film was a true masterpiece, and the cinematography and editing were simply outstanding.

CONCLUSION:

I must say, I had a truly satisfying experience watching Jawan, thanks to the incredible performance of Shah Rukh Khan. Director Atlee’s work on the film was truly impressive, and he has managed to create the perfect commercial mass movie that Bollywood has been missing for years. Jawan has all the elements of a perfect entertainer that can cater to every audience’s needs. The film offers some truly memorable moments, stunning action sequences, and Shah Rukh Khan’s dominating screen presence that is simply breathtaking. Moreover, the social messages and political scams portrayed in the film are truly eye-opening and thought-provoking. If you’re a fan of full-fledged mass commercial movies, then Jawan is all yours.

VERDICT: Paisa Vasool entertainer

RATING: 3.5/5
