Delhi violence; Two Popular Front leaders arrested

New Delhi: Popular Front leaders arrested in connection with a riot in northeast Delhi that killed 52 people. Popular Front Delhi President Pervez Ahmed and Secretary Mohammed Ilyas have been arrested.

They were arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell, which is investigating the riots in Delhi. Mohammed Ilyas had contested from the Karawal Nagar constituency as the SDPI candidate in the Delhi elections.

They have been charged with inciting people to riot and providing financial support for the riots. The arrested suspects will be produced in Patiala House Court soon.

Police constable Ratanlal was killed in a riot in the northeast of New Delhi against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Ratanlal was the head constable of the Gokulpuri police station. A total of 45 people, including a policeman, were killed in the riot.

SBI eliminates minimum balance for savings bank accounts

State Bank of India (SBI) has waived the minimum balance requirement for Savings Bank Accounts.

The bank policy that, people should keep a minimum balance of Rs.1000 in rural areas and, Rs. 2000 in the semi-urban area was lifted today. At least 44.51 cr savings bank accounts will get the profit due to this.

No penalty will be imposed if the minimum amount is not kept in the account. The interest rate on savings accounts has been consolidated to 3% per annum. Besides, SBI has also reduced lending rates and also eliminated SMS charges.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had earlier recommended that movie theaters and other artistic events be avoided till the 31st of this month. The chief minister also told a press conference that the festival and the feast should be solely ceremonial.

There should be no activity during this period except for examinations in educational institutions. Annual celebrations, artistic and cultural events should be avoided. Food for children in Anganwadi centers should be delivered to their homes.

Wedding ceremonies should be done simply. The Chief Minister said that everyone is requesting cooperation in these matters.

Preventive measures will be taken to control the disease in government offices. Sanitizer is made available in offices. The government will eliminate public programs.
