Thiruvananthapuram: The Food Department has decided to make the One Time Password (OTP) compulsory for the purchase of rations from tomorrow. Previously rice was distributed without any such restrictions. But the state government took action after the central government recommended that the OTP be made compulsory.
Thiruvananthapuram: The government has asked the universities to make arrangements for the exams to be resumed on May 11. Arrange the exams to complete within a week. Evaluation of completed exams should begin on April 20. Teachers should take-home assessment. The order says.
Candidates should be notified before the deadline for examinations. The examination shall be following the guidance and security issued by the Department of Health as part of the COVID Prevention. Universities should endeavor to implement the On-Screen Marking System, which is an online evaluation system, at least for the rest of the examinations.
Until the next academic year, universities should start with the barcode insertion instead of evaluating the number on the answer sheets. Students must take university initiatives and offer online classes and assignments. Teachers can participate in a training program under the flyer program to prepare the content of the Massive Online Open Courses.
University libraries should be open to research students following security standards. For distance education students, students can also organize online classes.
Thiruvananthapuram: Banks will function as normal from Monday. Since Monday, the banks have been operating in ten districts of the state. Except for red zone- Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode and Malappuram districts- banks will be open from Monday 10 am to 4 pm. The banks will operate until 2 pm May 3 in the Red Zone districts. Since May 4, banks will be back to normal.
Mumbai: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has taken measures to increase lending and stimulate small businesses, agriculture, and real estate.
Key measures and benefits of the second COVID package are:
1. 50,000 crores will be given to banks to make more money with non-bank financial institutions (NBFC). The Small Industry Development Bank of India (SIDB), the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the National Housing Bank (NHB) will get Rs 50,000 crore.
2. There will be more loans available in the market.
3. The reverse repo, the rate of interest that banks hold in the Reserve Bank, has been reduced by a quarterly percentage to 3.75%.
4. States have increased the borrowing rate of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) by 60%.
5. Support for states to deal with the financial crisis.
6. The loan repayment period has been reduced from 90 days to 180 days.
7. The moratorium period is March 1- May, not later than 3 months after the moratorium period.
The RBI has instructed commercial and cooperative banks to stop distributing dividends.
WhatsApp to expand the Group Video Call service. Now only four people can participate in the WhatsApp Group Video Call.
In the new Beta format, more people can join in the conversion at a time. The extended group call feature can be viewed in the new beta format. It is currently not in vogue but is expected to come soon. Everyone attending the group call should use the new version of WhatsApp.
Having said that, the new Beta version group will cause some problems in calling. All calls in end-to-end encryption are available in the new beta version of WhatsApp.
WhatsApp’s group video calling service is currently challenging for apps like Duo and Zoom.
Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC allowed making service from Monday except for the red zone in Kerala. The KSRTC can service in cities Orange A, B reports said. A single trip can not exceed 60 lm/hr. Buses do not have permission to cross the border. The passengers should wear a mask. There are restrictions in two-wheelers. Only two of one family can travel in the two-wheeler at a time.
The concessions will be applicable from 20.
Arrangements were made for driving on intermittent days. The single and double numbers can be arranged on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It does not apply to essential services and women driving vehicles.
The zones are Red, Orange A, Orange B, and Green. There will be full lockdown in Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode and Malappuram districts coming up in Red Zone till May 3. Orange A comes in three districts – Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, and Kollam. Partial control will continue after April 24 in these districts. Orange B comes from Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Palakkad, Thrissur and Wayanad districts. Kottayam and Idukki districts are in the Green Zone.
Britain may send 17 special flights to retrieve British nationals trapped in India. The British High Commission said it would operate the aircraft from April 20.
These special flights will fly to London from Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Delhi, Goa, and Mumbai. Britain has already announced 21 special flights. In addition, 17 more flights have already been announced. The total number of flights the UK sends back to India is 38.
British citizens who have applied for a return seat will be given priority. The British High Commission said the authorities would contact the people booked reservation earlier.

Thunderstorms are likely between 2 pm and 10 pm. It would be a dangerous thunderstorm and lighting. Therefore, the people should be vigilant, the authorities said.
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the lockdown controls announced by the central government would continue in the state. The Center has announced concessions from April 20 on non-hotspot districts. Districts that have been declared a Red Zone will continue to have strict control.
The Center has stopped the work of public transport and educational institutions. All these will remain in the state. Kasargod, Kannur, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Thiruvananthapuram, and Pathanamthitta districts are the hotspots according to the central list. This would include Kozhikode. There is a suggestion that the districts of Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, and Malappuram should be united as one zone. This will be presented to the Central Government.
