Conflict during voting; Ten arrested in West Bengal

Kolkata: Ten people have been arrested in connection with clashes during the first phase of Assembly polls in West Bengal. Chief Electoral Officer Aries Aftab said 10 people had been arrested in connection with the clashes in the two constituencies.
Out of 243 seats in West Bengal, 30 seats in the south-west were polled on Saturday. Seven persons were arrested from the Salboni constituency in Pasim Medinipur district.

The attackers had set fire to a vehicle that had returned after feeding security personnel in Purulia. Sumendu, brother of BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari of Nandigram, was attacked in his vehicle in East Midnapore. The driver was beaten. BJP-Trinamool activists clash in Nandigram Security personnel opened fire on Bhagwanpur in East Midnapore.In Bengal, meanwhile, the turnout was 79.79 percent in the first phase.

Thiruvananthapuram: Postal voting by the Election Commission (EC) will be held from today at 30 designated places in the state for employees working in the essential services sector who are unable to go to the polling station and register to vote. Eligible voters have been notified by the concerned Returning Officer of the place where they are to go to vote.

Concessions on Covid rules for Everest tourists

Kathmandu: Nepal has relaxed the Covid rules to attract Everest tourists. It is important to note that quarantine is not required for those who have been vaccinated with Covid and have a Covid negative certificate. Tourists are required to submit RTPCR results taken within 72 hours of departure from home and records of receipt of two doses of vaccine on the Tourism website. The Department of Tourism also said that documents should be produced for the visa requirement while taking the ticket.

Besides, there is a facility to check the documents of the hotels and resorts where you have decided to stay in Nepal. Upon arrival in Nepal, travelers are required to make a further inspection at their own expense. Apart from this, travelers should also have travel insurance of one lakh Nepali rupees.

Thundershowers are expected in the state till Monday

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has forecast thundershowers in the state till Monday and the public should be vigilant. Isolated showers are expected in the state till March 29, the Met Office said.
Along with this, a lightning alert has been issued. The state had received heavy rains the previous day. In Ernakulam district, heavy rains and winds caused extensive damage.

Vishu Kit distribution from April 1

Thiruvananthapuram: The food department has decided to distribute Vishukit in Kerala from April 1. It was decided to distribute the kit at the end of March and later to the blue, pink, and white cardholders. The kit will be given to all cardholders irrespective of the card.

The government may also suggest that ration shops be reopened on April 1 or 2, which is a public holiday. The kits were already ready to be delivered to AAY families before March 31st.

The Food Department has also decided to question the Election Commission’s ban on the distribution of special rice at the rate of Rs 15 per 10 kg to white and blue cardholders.

Bengal, Assam first phase polls today

Kolkatta: The first phase of polling in Bengal and Assam has begun today. In Bengal, where elections will be held in eight phases, the first phase will be held in 30 constituencies. In Assam, where polling will be held in three phases, 47 constituencies will go to the polls in the first phase.

32 killed in train collision in Egypt

Cairo: At least 32 people have been killed after two trains collided in southern Egypt. 66 people were injured. The accident took place in the Tahtah district of Sohag province. It is said that the accident was caused by a person pulling the safety chain on the train which was in front of the trains coming on the same line. The train collided with it.

North Korea tests missile again

All crew members aboard Suez Canal are Indians; Crisis in rescue operations

Cairo: The cargo ship, which has been stranded for more than three days across the Suez Canal, the world’s busiest shipping lane, is reported to have 25 crew members on board, the Associated Press reported. At the same time, the shipping company officials said that all the employees were safe. It has been announced that it may take days for the cargo ship to be removed and traffic resumed. The ship stranded around 7.45 am on Tuesday.

The 193 km long Suez Canal, first opened in 1869, accounts for 12% of world trade. It is estimated that $ 9.6 billion worth of cargo passes through the Suez Canal every day.
