Conflict during voting; Ten arrested in West Bengal

Kolkata: Ten people have been arrested in connection with clashes during the first phase of Assembly polls in West Bengal. Chief Electoral Officer Aries Aftab said 10 people had been arrested in connection with the clashes in the two constituencies.
Out of 243 seats in West Bengal, 30 seats in the south-west were polled on Saturday. Seven persons were arrested from the Salboni constituency in Pasim Medinipur district.

The attackers had set fire to a vehicle that had returned after feeding security personnel in Purulia. Sumendu, brother of BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari of Nandigram, was attacked in his vehicle in East Midnapore. The driver was beaten. BJP-Trinamool activists clash in Nandigram Security personnel opened fire on Bhagwanpur in East Midnapore.In Bengal, meanwhile, the turnout was 79.79 percent in the first phase.
