Kochi: The High Court stayed the action of the Election Commission in blocking the distribution of special rice. The High Court granted the stay on an appeal filed by the government. The High Court said the distribution of rice should not be used for electioneering or to influence voters.

Hyderabad: Buses and trucks collided in Andhra Pradesh. Five people were killed in the incident.

New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has added 10 more Rafale fighter jets to strengthen the Indian defense sector. Three Rafale fighter jets will arrive in India in the next three days. After that, seven Rafale aircraft and a training version will arrive in India by the middle of next month, defense sources said.
The warplanes will fly non-stop for eight hours from Bordeaux-Marignac base in France to Hasimara base in Bengal. So far 11 Rafale flights have arrived in the country. With the arrival of new aircraft, the total number will increase to 21. India has awarded contracts for 36 Rafale aircraft. New Delhi: The President has signed the Delhi Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, which gives more powers to the lieutenant governor, who represents the central government.
The bill was passed by the central government amid strong opposition from the Aam Aadmi Party and other opposition parties. With this, the lieutenant governor will have more power than the government in the national capital, Delhi. The Delhi government, however, was replaced by Lt. Govt. The amendment gives the definition of the governor. All measures and plans of the Government It cannot be done without consulting or obtaining permission from the Governor. Thus, the new amendment robs the state government of all rights and powers.
The bill seeks to amend sections 21,24,33,44 of the Act relating to the National Capital Region. Section 21 contains restrictions on laws passed by the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The bill states that wherever the word government is used, it means “lieutenant governor.”
Under Article 24, the lieutenant governor has the power to approve, withhold, or leave to the President a bill passed by the Legislature.
Section 33 of the Bill also prohibits the Legislature from making certain rules. The 44th Amendment proposes that the lieutenant governor be consulted on administrative actions.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has said that the Center has introduced a law giving omnipotence to the lieutenant governor out of fear of Kejriwal’s popular support. New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Trinamool Congress leader in West Bengal in connection with the murder of a CPI (M) leader. Chhatradhar Mahato, a member of the Trinamool Congress state committee, was arrested. The accused was arrested by a 40-member NIA team at Mahato’s residence in Lalgarh in the Jhargram district. He was arrested in connection with the 2009 murder of CPI (M) leader Prabir Ghosh. He was shifted to Kolkata to appear in court in the afternoon. The NIA is investigating multiple cases against Mahato.
The arrests came shortly after the completion of the first phase of the elections. Local Trinamool leaders alleged that Mahato, who was sleeping at home, was forcibly arrested by the NIA. Meanwhile, a policeman was injured. Mahato was the leader of the Maoist-affiliated People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA). He was earlier arrested in connection with the murder of Prabir Ghosh. Shortly afterward, the Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express was raided by Maoists demanding the release of Mahato. The case is being investigated by the National Investigation Agency.
