Ahmedabad: The death toll from Cyclone Tauktae has risen to 45 in Gujarat. Cyclone Tauktae was hit Gujarat by Monday night. The worst affected district is Amreli in Saurashtra province.
Eight people each died in Bhavnagar and Gir Somnath districts. Five died in Ahmedabad and two died in Kheda, one each in Anand, Vadodara, Surat, Valsad, Rajkot, Navsari, and Panchmahal districts due to Cyclone Tauktae, reports said.
Thiruvananthapuram: The Met Office has warned of strong winds and heavy rains in six districts of the state. Vigilance was issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, and Kannur districts.
Strong winds and rain are likely in the next three hours. According to the Met Office, this is a pre-monsoon rain. The state will receive widespread rainfall these days. Isolated heavy rain is also possible.
Winds can reach up to 40 kilometers per hour. The monsoon will arrive on the 31st of this month. The warning said that the depression forming in the Bay of Bengal will turn into another cyclone called ‘Yaas’ by Sunday.
Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has warned of possible depression in the Andaman Sea in the Bay of Bengal. The depression is expected to form by May 22.
If that happens, it will become the second hurricane this year. The cyclone is expected to make landfall on the Odisha-Bengal coast by May 25, the Met Office said.
The hurricane is known as Yaas. The name was suggested by Oman. The Central Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in Kerala as a result of the cyclone.
Kathmandu: Earthquake hits in Nepal. A magnitude of 5.8 was recorded on the Richter scale, Chief Seismologist at the National Seismological Research Center, Dr. Lok Bijai Adhikari Said.
The earthquake was reported at 5.42 am on Wednesday. The epicenter is located in Bhulbhule in Lamjamg District. But so far no accidents or deaths have been reported. An earthquake in Nepal in 2015 killed at least 9,000 people. At that time the intensity was recorded as 8.1.
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has extended the lockdown on the second wave of Covid. Earlier, it was decided to impose a lockdown in the state till June 1. The government has decided to extend the restrictions for two weeks after June 1. The decision comes as the spread of the virus has not abated in some districts of eastern Odisha. The states of Delhi, Punjab, and Kerala had earlier decided to extend the lockdown. There are currently 94,293 Covid cases in Odisha. In the last 24 hours, 1086 new cases and 22 deaths were reported.
