Death of Vismaya

Kollam: Kiran Kumar, a resident of Sasthamcotta was arrested for his wife Vismaya’s death. Kiran, who was absconding after the incident, reached Sooranad police station last night and surrendered. The arrest was recorded today after questioning. The case is currently being prosecuted on charges of domestic violence. More departments will be charged after the post-mortem report of Vismaya comes out.

Vismaya, 24, was found dead at Kiran’s house in Sasthamcotta Sooranadu last day. The girl’s family alleges that the harassment over the dowry led to her daughter’s death. WhatsApp messages and pictures sent by Vismaya’s cousin revealed that her husband was brutally abusing her. Following this, the police took Kiran into custody. Kiran, a motor vehicle department official, may be fired from the job.

Police will also question Kiran’s parents and relatives in connection with Vismaya’s death. The police are preparing for a detailed interrogation as the relatives of the girl have repeatedly said that it was a murder.

Vismaya and Kirankumar were married on May 31, 2020. The dowry was 100 sovereigns of gold, an acre of 20 cents land, and a car worth Rs 10 lakh. But he was constantly urging Vismaya to sell the car and ask the family to pay. Vismaya’s father Trivikraman Nair alleges that he constantly beat his daughter when she was not ready for this.

12-16 week interval is effective; Central Govt announces no change in Covshield vaccine interval

covid

New Delhi: The Central government has made it clear that there is no need to change the interval for the second dose of the Covshield vaccine. Niti Ayog member VK Paul said the current system was effective. He said it was effective to take the second dose between 12-16 weeks of the vaccine interval.

There was a widespread demand to shorten the interval of the Covshield vaccine, a joint venture between Oxford University and AstraZeneca. It was alleged that the break was extended due to a shortage of vaccines in the country.

Experts are evaluating the interval of the Covshield vaccine. The government has also found that the 12-16 week break currently prescribed is more effective. Therefore, there is no need to change the current interval, said VK Paul.

But he added that it was not possible to say whether there would be a change in the interval in the future. In India, the first dose of Covshield was initially set at four to six weeks.

It was then extended to six to eight weeks and then to 12-16 weeks. The country can administer 1.25 crore vaccines a day. The government has said it will vaccinate 20 to 22 crore people in the country next month.

Center allocates more Covid vaccine to states

New Delhi: The central government’s new vaccine policy came into effect on Monday. Under the new vaccine policy, the Covid vaccine is free for everyone over the age of 18. The aim is to make complete vaccination a reality by December.

So far, the center has provided free vaccines to people over 45 years of age. 75% of the vaccine will be stored by the Center and distributed to the states. So far, the amount of vaccine supplied by the Center to the states has been 50%. Private hospitals can be purchased 25%  directly from the company. Earlier, states bought the vaccine directly from companies for 18- to 44-year-olds. The states bought the vaccine at a high price.

The announcement of the new vaccine policy comes amid widespread protests over the central government’s stance on the distribution of the vaccine to the states. The Center determines the vaccine quota for the states based on population, disease prevalence, and effective vaccine supply. Vaccines provided by the Central Government can be distributed to the states on a first-come, first-served basis.

About 25 percent of vaccines can be purchased at private hospitals. The Covshield is priced at Rs 780 and the Covaxin is priced at Rs 1,410. Private hospitals can charge Rs 1,145 for the Sputnik V Vaccine.

KSRTC launches first LNG bus service

Thiruvananthapuram: Transport Minister Antony Raju has said that the hike in charges is not being considered to overcome the financial crisis in KSRTC following the sharp rise in fuel prices. Speaking at the inauguration of KSRTC’s first LNG bus service, the minister said that financial discipline will be brought into the department. The Minister said that the pension crisis in KSRTC will be resolved and the contract for distribution through the Co-operative Bank will be renewed.

LNG is a vehicle that uses green fuel to reduce fuel costs. LNG buses will operate on a trial basis on the Thiruvananthapuram-Ernakulam and Ernakulam-Kozhikode routes. The buses were handed over by Petronet LNG Limited. The final decision on the conversion of 400 buses to LNG will be taken after evaluating the fuel efficiency and economic benefits.
