Heavy rains in 12 districts from tomorrow; Central Meteorological Department issues orange alert

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in 12 districts from tomorrow. So the Orange Alert was declared on Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday – Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts and on Thursday, the orange alert has been declared in the following districts- Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad.
Isolated showers are forecast. The Meteorological Department has forecast very heavy rainfall of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

The Central Water Commission has issued an orange alert on three rivers in Kerala. Orange alert has been issued in Kollam Kalladayar, Pathanamthitta Achankovilar and Thiruvananthapuram Karamanayar.

Meanwhile, the three gates of the Idukki dam on Periyar River were opened by the local authorities in Kerala to ease the pressure on the structure in the wake of heavy rainfall in the southern state.
