Setback to Sriram Venkittaraman; The High Court stayed the verdict acquitting the manslaughter charge

Kochi: Sriram Venkataraman get a major setback by the High Court in the case of media worker KM Basheer being hit and killed by a vehicle. The High Court stayed the lower court order that acquitted Sriram of murder charges. The stay was on an appeal filed by the government seeking to maintain the charge of murder.

The Thiruvananthapuram Magistrate’s Court dropped the murder charge against Sriram after considering the discharge petition filed by the accused. With this, KM Basheer’s death has become a car accident case. Following this, the government approached the High Court questioning the lower court order. In the appeal, the government sought to quash the lower court order and maintain the charge of murder.

The court accepted the petition file and stayed the lower court order for two months. The High Court will later give a final verdict on whether the charge of manslaughter will stand. Court sent notice to Sriram Venkataraman. The case was adjourned to the 30th of this month.

Fire in China: 10 dead, 9 injured

Beijing: Ten people were killed and nine injured in a fire in a residential building in northwest China’s Xinjiang region on Thursday night, state news agency Xinhua reported.

The hospital officials said that the injured were rushed to the hospital but could not be saved. Officials added that an investigation into the accident has been launched. Fire incidents are common in China due to lax safety standards and corruption among officials. This week, a factory fire in the central Chinese city of Anyang killed 38 people and injured two others.

Telangana Operation Lotus; BL Santhosh and Tushar Vellapalli were added to the accused list

Hyderabad: BDJS president and NDA Kerala unit convener Tushar Vellapalli and BJP organization general secretary BL Santhosh have been added to the Accused list in the Telangana operation lotus case. Although they were summoned earlier, they did not appear before the investigation team. Then a look-out notice was also issued. After this, the Special Investigation Team added the name in the FIR.

Mumbai: One more child died of measles in Mumbai. The child was admitted to the hospital on November 20 due to fever, cough, cold, maculopapular rash and respiratory problems. With this, the death toll in Govandi rose to seven.
13 deaths due to measles have been reported in Mumbai so far.

Kochi:  Dr. Rosalind George has taken charge as the interim VC of Kerala Fisheries University. The chancellor appointed Dr. Rosalind George as the interim VC after the High Court quashed the appointment of former VC Dr. Riji K John.

Dr. Rosalind was the Dean of the University’s Faculty of Fisheries Science. Dr. Rosalind said that he was given the temporary charge of VC to remove the deadlock. Dr. Rosalind said after taking charge that he has been instructed to carry out day-to-day affairs.

Kerala SSLC Plus Two Exam Date Announced

Thiruvananthapuram: SSLC Plus Two exam date was announced today. Higher Secondary and Vocational Higher Secondary Examinations are scheduled to begin on March 10, 2023, and end on March 30, 2023. First and Second Year Higher Secondary and Vocational Higher Secondary Model Examinations will begin on February 27, 2023, and end on March 3, 2023.

Second Year Higher Secondary Practical Examinations will commence on 1st February 2023 and Vocational Higher Secondary Practical Examinations on 25th January 2023. More than 900,000 students in first and second-year higher secondary
General Examinations and about 60,000 students will write the Vocational Higher Secondary General Examination.
2nd year Higher Secondary & Vocational Higher Secondary evaluation will start on 3rd April 2023 and the exam result will be declared by 25th May.

There will be 82 evaluation camps for higher secondary. About twenty-four thousand teachers
participate in the evaluation. There will be 8 evaluation camps in Vocational Higher Secondary.
Out of which 3500 teachers will participate in the evaluation camps.

Two new special trains from Ernakulam South

Kochi:  Two new special trains have been announced from Ernakulam South. Special trains have been announced for Hatya in Jharkhand and Darbhanga in Bihar.

On Thursdays, the train departs from Ernakulam South to Hatya at 7.15 am. The service will be on November 24 and December 1. The return service to Ernakulam will depart from Hatya on November 28 at 4.30 am.

The train from Darbhanga Junction, Bihar to Ernakulam departs at 9.15 pm on Mondays. The service will be on November 28, December 5, and 21. The train from Ernakulam to Darbhanga will depart at 9 pm on Thursday. Service on November 24, December 1, 8, and 15.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has predicted rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Kerala till Friday. Thunderstorms are dangerous. They cause great damage to human and animal life, electrical and communication networks, and appliances connected to electrical conductors. The warning says to immediately move inside a safe building after seeing the first sign of lightning.

Staying outdoors can increase the risk of lightning. Keep windows and doors closed during periods of strong winds and lightning. Stay inside the building and try not to touch the wall or floor as much as possible. Unplug household appliances. Proximity to electrical equipment should also be avoided during thunderstorms.

Avoid using the telephone during thunderstorms. It is okay to use mobile phones. If the weather is cloudy, ensure that children do not play in open spaces and terraces, the advisory said.
