Abu Dhabi: Next year’s public holidays have been announced in the UAE. Holidays are January 1, New Year’s Day, April 20 to 23 Eid-ul-Fitr, June 27 to 30 Eid al-Adha, July 21, the beginning of the Hijra year, and September 29, the Nabi Dinam. The holiday was announced by the UAE Cabinet. The holiday will apply to both the public sector and private sector.

A uniform schedule for public and private sectors is issued in the UAE to ensure equal days off for employees. Some of the holidays mentioned in the list are based on the Hijri Islamic calendar. Lunar eclipses are also crucial when calculating similar days in the Gregorian calendar.

Do not give antibiotics for minor fever and lung disease; ICMR with guidance

New Delhi:  Indian Council of Medical Research with guidelines not to give antibiotics for minor fever and viral bronchitis (lung disease). ICMR advises doctors to be careful while prescribing medicines.

Antibiotics should only be given for five days for infections that are superficial to the skin and affect tissues. Community-acquired pneumonia can be treated with antibiotics for five days and for hospital-acquired pneumonia for eight days. Empirical antibiotic therapy should be given only for community-acquired pneumonia, ventilator-acquired pneumonia, severe sepsis, septic shock, and flesh-eating bacteria, ICMR reports said.

MG University Teacher Recruitment; The Supreme Court stayed the High Court’s order to revise the criteria

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has stayed the High Court’s order to frame new criteria for the appointment of teachers in the Mahatma Gandhi University interview.

A bench comprising Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala issued the stay order on a petition filed by the university after the High Court quashed the 50 marks for the interview for the post of Hindi Assistant Professor.

The university’s notification stipulated that a maximum of 50 marks, 10 marks for teaching aptitude, 20 marks for research aptitude, and 10 marks for subject knowledge will be awarded for interview for the post of Hindi Assistant Professor in colleges under the university. The High Court, which quashed this, had directed that a new standard be issued within a month. Following this, the university approached the Supreme Court.

In the petition submitted to the Supreme Court, it was pointed out that the process of appointment of teachers is an academic matter and the court should avoid interference in it and the university has the power to determine the norms.

Senior advocate Maninder Singh, witness Sakshi Kakar, and Surin George Ipe, standing consul of the university in the High Court, appeared on behalf of the university.
