Kochi:  Dr. Rosalind George has taken charge as the interim VC of Kerala Fisheries University. The chancellor appointed Dr. Rosalind George as the interim VC after the High Court quashed the appointment of former VC Dr. Riji K John.

Dr. Rosalind was the Dean of the University’s Faculty of Fisheries Science. Dr. Rosalind said that he was given the temporary charge of VC to remove the deadlock. Dr. Rosalind said after taking charge that he has been instructed to carry out day-to-day affairs.

Kerala SSLC Plus Two Exam Date Announced

Thiruvananthapuram: SSLC Plus Two exam date was announced today. Higher Secondary and Vocational Higher Secondary Examinations are scheduled to begin on March 10, 2023, and end on March 30, 2023. First and Second Year Higher Secondary and Vocational Higher Secondary Model Examinations will begin on February 27, 2023, and end on March 3, 2023.

Second Year Higher Secondary Practical Examinations will commence on 1st February 2023 and Vocational Higher Secondary Practical Examinations on 25th January 2023. More than 900,000 students in first and second-year higher secondary
General Examinations and about 60,000 students will write the Vocational Higher Secondary General Examination.
2nd year Higher Secondary & Vocational Higher Secondary evaluation will start on 3rd April 2023 and the exam result will be declared by 25th May.

There will be 82 evaluation camps for higher secondary. About twenty-four thousand teachers
participate in the evaluation. There will be 8 evaluation camps in Vocational Higher Secondary.
Out of which 3500 teachers will participate in the evaluation camps.

Two new special trains from Ernakulam South

Kochi:  Two new special trains have been announced from Ernakulam South. Special trains have been announced for Hatya in Jharkhand and Darbhanga in Bihar.

On Thursdays, the train departs from Ernakulam South to Hatya at 7.15 am. The service will be on November 24 and December 1. The return service to Ernakulam will depart from Hatya on November 28 at 4.30 am.

The train from Darbhanga Junction, Bihar to Ernakulam departs at 9.15 pm on Mondays. The service will be on November 28, December 5, and 21. The train from Ernakulam to Darbhanga will depart at 9 pm on Thursday. Service on November 24, December 1, 8, and 15.

Rain with thunder and lightning is likely in Kerala till Friday

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has predicted rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Kerala till Friday. Thunderstorms are dangerous. They cause great damage to human and animal life, electrical and communication networks, and appliances connected to electrical conductors. The warning says to immediately move inside a safe building after seeing the first sign of lightning.

Staying outdoors can increase the risk of lightning. Keep windows and doors closed during periods of strong winds and lightning. Stay inside the building and try not to touch the wall or floor as much as possible. Unplug household appliances. Proximity to electrical equipment should also be avoided during thunderstorms.

Avoid using the telephone during thunderstorms. It is okay to use mobile phones. If the weather is cloudy, ensure that children do not play in open spaces and terraces, the advisory said.

Twin murder; Three people are in custody

Kannur: Three persons are in custody in the case of the murder of two CPIM workers who questioned the sale of ganja in Kannur Thalassery by a drug mafia gang. Jackson, Farhan, and Naveen are in custody. All three are natives of Thalassery. The search is on for another accused Parai Babu. CPIM Natur branch committee member Shameer and CPIM activist Khalid were killed. Shanib was seriously injured in the attack by the drug mafia and is undergoing treatment

A group of drug mafia attacked three CPI(M) workers near Thalassery city center around 4 pm on Wednesday. Khalid, who was stabbed, died at Thalassery Cooperative Hospital and Shamir died at a private hospital in Kozhikode. Shamir has stated to the police that he was stabbed by a group of drug dealers, including Jackson and Parai Babu. Shameer’s son Shabeel was beaten up by Jackson near Nettur Chirakkavu on Wednesday afternoon when he questioned him about selling drugs.

Shameer, Khalid, and friends had come to know that Shabeel had been admitted to the cooperative hospital. The drug mafia called them to the road under the pretense of reconciliation. During the conversation, he took a knife from his hand and stabbed Khalid in the neck. Shameer and Shanib who tried to stop them were also attacked with deadly weapons. The country is reeling from the double murder committed by the drug mafia.

Liquor prices will increase in the state; Cabinet approves increase in sales tax by 2 percent

Thiruvananthapuram: Liquor prices will increase in the state. Cabinet meeting approved to increase sales tax by two percent.

The objective is to compensate for the loss in turnover tax avoidance. One hundred and thirty crores was received as turnover tax in a year.

The government had earlier decided in principle to reduce the turnover to be paid by the liquor companies to Bevco. This was approved by the Council of Ministers. The Cabinet meeting decided to increase the sales tax by two percent. A notification can be issued only if a new amendment is brought in this regard.

An official notification will be issued after the new amendment is passed in the House, when the Assembly session is scheduled to begin on December 5.

268 killed in Indonesian earthquake; Many of the dead were school children

Jakarta: The death toll from Wednesday’s earthquake in Java, Indonesia has risen to 268. The number of injured is over a thousand. 151 people are missing. 22,000 houses were damaged. 58,000 people were shifted to relief camps.

Indonesia’s disaster management agency said the dead included many school children.The earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale occurred around 1 pm. Schools were not open at this time. Many children were trapped in the rubble of school buildings.

The earthquake hit the highlands of Java, causing widespread landslides. A village inside Cianjur town was completely submerged. Several aftershocks compounded the impact of the disaster. President Joko Widodo visited the disaster area yesterday. He said that priority is given to rescuing those trapped in the debris.

Milk price hiked by Rs 6 per litre: Effective December 1

Thiruvananthapuram: It has been decided to increase the price of milk by Rs 6 per litre. The new price will be effective from December 1. The decision is Milma’s. Minister J Chinchurani had said that there will be an increase in the price of milk in the state by not less than 5 rupees. In a press conference, the Minister informed that Milma is entitled to bring a price hike and milk price hike is necessary to support the farmers.

An expert committee appointed by Milma had recommended an increase in the price of milk. The minister also stated that the report has been received which contains things such as how much increase should be increased and how much percentage of the increase will be given to the farmers.

The increase in milk prices is due to the challenges faced by dairy farmers. In the interim report submitted by the committee appointed by Milma, demand for an increase of Rs 7 to 8 per litre of milk has been demanded. According to the report, the farmers have demanded an increase of Rs 7 to 8 per liter. The report also points out that only if it is increased by that much, the farmer will get at least six rupees after commission and other expenses.

Share market scam again in Malappuram; Four member gang arrested

BJP suspends 12 leaders in Gujarat

Ahmedabad:  BJP suspends 12 leaders for filing nomination papers as independent candidates in Gujarat assembly elections. The BJP has given a six-year suspension. Among the 12 people are former MLA from Padra Dinu Patel and former MLA from Bayad Dhavalsinh Sala.

Kuldeep Singh Raul (Sauli), Khatubhai Pagi (Shehra), SM Khant (Lunawada), JP Patel (Lunawada), Ramesh Sala (Umreth), Amarshi Sala (Khambhat), Ramsin Thakur (Kheralu), Mavji Desai (Dhanera) Lebji Thakur (Deesa) also received the suspension.

Gujarat BJP President CR Patil said in a press release that 12 rebels have been suspended for six years for engaging in anti-party activities.

Out of the total 182 assembly seats in Gujarat, polling will be held for 89 seats on December 1 and for the remaining 93 seats on December 5. The counting of votes will be held on December 8.
