Heavy rain: Educational institutions in various districts of Tamil Nadu shut

Chennai: Schools and colleges in Thanjavur and Pudukottai districts will remain closed on Saturday as well, the District Collectors said in the wake of continuous heavy rains at isolated places in Tamil Nadu.

Due to heavy rainfall in Thanjavur and Pudukottai districts due to a depression formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal, schools and colleges in the district are closed.

Schools and colleges in Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur districts were closed earlier on Thursday due to heavy rains. A day holiday was announced for schools and colleges in the Nagapattinam district while only schools were announced in the Tiruvarur district.

As per the Meteorological Centre’s report, isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry are likely to experience thundershowers.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the low pressure formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal moved in the west-southwest direction and crossed the Sri Lankan coast on Wednesday afternoon.

Nimisha is a native of Palakkad Kollengode. Talal, a citizen of Yemen, was killed on July 25, 2017. The case is that Talal Abdumahdi was killed by Nimishapriya and her friend and the body was hidden in the water tank above the house.

Nimisha claims that Talal, who came with a promise of help to start his clinic while working as a nurse in Yemen, was brutally tortured by confiscating his passport, which led to the murder. On the advice of Hanan, a Yemeni colleague, and another young man, Talal was injected with an overdose of medicine, leading to his death.

The lower court sentenced Nimisha to death. Nimisha can come back to life only if the victim’s family accepts the money and apologizes. But the efforts made for this were not successful.

Lucknow: Journalist Siddique Kappan, who was imprisoned in UP, has been released from jail. The Supreme Court granted bail in the UAPA case registered by the Uttar Pradesh Police and the Allahabad High Court granted bail in the ED-registered case.

Last September, the Supreme Court granted bail to Siddique Kappan in the UAPA case. In December, the Allahabad High Court also granted bail in the ED case. On October 5, 2020, the UP Police arrested Siddique Kappan and others when they went to report the murder of a girl who was gang-raped in Hathras.

Kappan, who was arrested under charges including UAPA, remained in jail for 27 months. The ED found that Kappan had links with the Popular Front and that the money was accepted to create riots in Hathras.

Liquor scam: Money used in elections, Kejriwal’s name in the charge sheet

New Delhi: A new charge sheet by the Enforcement Directorate alleges that Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party used money from the liquor scam to campaign in the Goa assembly elections. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s name is mentioned in the charge sheet. Telangana’s ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader Kavitha, Andhra Pradesh’s ruling YSR Congress MP Maguntha Srinivasalu Reddy, and Aurobindo Pharma’s Sarath Reddy are named in the charge sheet.

According to the ED chargesheet, Aam Aadmi Party communications in-charge Vijay Nair, accused in the Delhi liquor scam case, made a video call between Indospirits chief Sameer Mahendru and Kejriwal from his phone.

ED has issued the supplementary chargesheet against Aam Aadmi Party and Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor policy scam case. The money obtained through corruption was used for the election campaign in Goa. Vijay Nair and others collected more than 100 crores. The charge sheet also states that Vijay Nair is the main mastermind of the scam. AAP contested the 2022 Goa assembly elections and won two seats.

Earlier, the ED had filed a charge sheet against businessman Sameer Mahendru and four firms in the liquor scam case. The Delhi government’s Excise Policy 2021-22 was scrapped on July 31 last year following allegations of corruption. There were allegations of corruption and irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the policy.

ED and CBI also found corruption when the Delhi excise policy was revised with the connivance of the liquor lobby. Central agencies have alleged that Liquor License holders have been given undue benefits in connection with the license under the Liquor Policy.

Union Minister says there will be no Uniform Civil Code soon

New Delhi: Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has said that no decision has been taken regarding the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in India. The Minister also stated that the Center has not taken any action in this regard.

The Central Government had asked the 21st Law Commission to examine various issues related to the Uniform Civil Code and submit recommendations. But Rijju said that the term of that law commission ended on August 31, 2018.

Information received from the 21st Law Commission regarding the Uniform Civil Code is likely to be taken up for consideration by the next Law Commission. Therefore, no decision has been taken yet, Kiran Rijiju said.
