Islamabad: Death toll exceeds 100 in Pakistan’s Peshawar mosque attack. More than 200 people were injured in the accident. There are reports that the condition of some people is very serious. Around 300 people were inside the church.

Mohanlal’s ivory case; The High Court adjourned for judgment

Kochi: The High Court adjourned the verdict in actor Mohanlal’s ivory case. Judgment will be given in ten days. Justice Badruddin’s bench was changed to deliver the verdict. In June 2012, the Income Tax department raided Mohanlal’s house in Thevara and found the ivory.

The government’s demand was to quash the Perumbavoor court order which rejected the government’s demand to quash the case against possession of ivory. The High Court had earlier asked whether Mohanlal had the right to approach the court demanding the withdrawal of the case.

Ivory was seized from Mohanlal’s house in 2012. The income tax department found 4 ivory from Mohanlal’s house. Krishnakumar, who handed over the ivory to Mohanlal, has also approached the High Court.

KR Narayanan Film Institute Chairman Adoor Gopalakrishnan has resigned

Kottayam: Adoor Gopalakrishnan has resigned as chairman of KR Narayanan Film Institute. The resignation was handed over to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Adoor stated that he resigned in protest against the moves against Shankar Mohan. Adoor said that the allegations against Shankar Mohan are baseless. Shankar Mohan resigned amid the caste discrimination controversy at the institute. Shankar Mohan’s resignation came before the release of the report of the commission appointed by the government to investigate the complaints of caste discrimination.
 Adoor’s tenure as chairman of the KR Narayanan Institute is till March 31.

Kerala University to examine Chintha Jerome’s dissertation; A four-member committee will be appointed

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala University will appoint an expert committee to look into Chintha Jerome’s dissertation controversy. A four-member committee will be appointed. The paper will be subjected to direct examination. The action is taken in the background of receiving the complaint.

Yesterday, the committee at the SAVE University camp asked for a recheck of Chinta Jerome’s research degree. The demand was made in a petition given to the Governor and Kerala University Vice-Chancellor. The petition demanded that the guideship of Dr. PP Ajayakumar should be suspended and he should be removed from the post of HRDC Director.

The dissertation submitted for awarding Chinta Jerome’s Ph.D. must be re-examined by an expert committee. The guideship of ex-PVCPP Ajayakumar should be suspended as the guide of thought who has committed serious lapses. The Save University camp also demanded that he be removed from the current position of HRDC director.

Death toll rises in Peshawar mosque attack

Islamabad: The death toll in a suicide bombing in northwest Pakistan’s Peshawar has risen to 90. More than 150 people have been injured in a suicide bombing at a mosque on the Afghan border. Today only 9 dead bodies were recovered from the collapsed roof of the church. Rescue operations are still going on.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place inside a mosque in a high-security area. A person who came to pray in the mosque exploded as a human bomb.

The Taliban has a strong presence in Peshawar, the capital of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Peshawar is a city that is regularly reported for terrorist attacks.

Condemning the attack, the President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi, tweeted, strongly condemning the heinous and cowardly blast at the Peshawar mosque. The culprits will be found and punished. He also noted that condolences are given to those who have lost their family members and prayers for the speedy recovery of those who have been injured.

The explosion inside the mosque proves that terrorism must be buried forever and that the attackers are not Islam.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said. He assured the people that the government would take strict action against those involved in the attack.

Health card mandatory from tomorrow; A food safety warning slip or sticker should be affixed

Thiruvananthapuram: From February 1 health card is mandatory for all employees handling food items in all establishments that cook, distribute and sell food.

In addition to food safety officers, health inspectors from the health department will also check hygiene and health cards. Food safety inspections and activities will be strengthened as part of the ‘Kerala Safe Food Space’ scheme implemented in the state. The Food Safety Department will take strict action against those who find deficiencies.

Action will be taken against those issuing and possessing fake certificates. The medical fitness certificate obtained should be kept in the institution. When closed establishments are reopened, they must submit an affidavit that all employees undergo food safety training within two weeks and register for hygiene ratings within one month of opening, along with remedying other deficiencies.

The Food Safety Department had issued an order banning food parcels without a slip or sticker with a food safety warning in the state. It has been made mandatory from February 1. Action will be taken against non-compliant institutions. The slip or sticker should specify the date and time the food was cooked and the time within which it should be consumed.

Smoked in the plane’s toilet; Malayali arrested

Kochi: A native of Thrissur was arrested for smoking in the toilet of the plane. Sukumaran, a native of Thrissur Mala, was arrested. The incident took place on a Dubai-Kochi flight. The action was taken following a complaint by the Kochi airport authorities.

While the plane was flying, the authorities noticed smoke coming from the lavatory. The staff then stopped him from smoking and informed the security officer at the airport.

He was taken into custody on the instructions of the security officer and cigarettes and a lighter were recovered from him. The police informed said a case has been registered against him under various departments.

Thrissur: In Vadakanchery Kundanoor, a person who was undergoing treatment died after being seriously injured in an explosion at a firecracker. Manikandan, a native of Kavaseri, who was undergoing treatment, died.

Manikandan was badly burnt in the explosion of the firecrackers. He died while undergoing treatment at Thrissur Medical College.

Bevco had demanded a 10% price hike for jawan produced at Travancore Sugars in Thiruvalla.

The Excise Department and the Chief Minister’s Office had initially accepted the demand in the face of rising spirit prices. But in the meantime, the government also waived the turnover tax of liquor companies. Travancore Sugars will also benefit from this.
