Nirbhaya Case; Supreme Court rejects Akshay Thakur’s plea

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today dismissed the curated petition challenging the Supreme Court’s verdict of death sentence of Nibhaya case accused Akshay Singh Takur. A five-member bench headed by Justice NV Ramana rejected the petition. The court also rejected the stay of the execution warrant issued on February 1.

Meanwhile, the defendant’s advocate AP Singh has approached the Delhi trial court on the death penalty. On February 1, the petition demanded that the death penalty be postponed. The penalty is not to be executed until the legal rights of the last accused including the mercy pleas are exhausted.

Vinay Sharma, the accused in the Nirbhaya case, has appealed to the President for mercy. Earlier, another accused, Mukesh Singh, had also issued a mercy petition to the President. But this was rejected by the President. Mukesh Singh’s mercy plea comes after the Supreme Court dismissed the amended petition. Mukesh Singh also appealed to the Supreme Court challenging the President’s mercy plea. The Supreme Court had rejected the plea. The Supreme Court dismissed the petition, saying it would not interfere with the President’s decision.

This was confirmed by the Union Health Ministry. The student’s health condition is stable, is under surveillance. Coronavirus is confirmed for the first time in India.

Actress attack case trial begun; Dileep is the 8th accused

Kochi: The trial of the actress attack case has begun. There are 10 accused and 300 witnesses, including the first accused Sunil Kumar (Pulsar Suni) and actor Dileep in the case.

The hearing will be held in a special court in Ernakulam. The assaulted actress was called for trial first. They can be prosecuted until February 5.   Apart from Sunil Kumar Martin Antony, Manikandan, Vijesh, Salim, Pradeep, Charlie Thomas, Sanal Kumar, and Vishnu are the other accused.

The accused have been charged with conspiracy, rape, kidnapping, insulting women, destruction of evidence and the IT Act.

Dileep’s plea seeking dismissal from the case is being considered by the High Court. The Supreme Court had ordered the trial to be completed within six months.

On February 17, 2017, the gang with Sunil Kumar attacked the young actress and took a video of attacking. Sunil Kumar states that actor Dileep is behind this. Dileep had filed 30 petitions in various courts demanding a copy of the footage and scientific examination.

Dileep was arrested by police in the fifth month after the incident. The prosecution has handed over the evidence and documents revealing Dileep’s role in this case. The trial begins three years after the shocking incident in Kerala.

Coronavirus; 170 deaths, all Google offices in China closed

Beijing: China’s death toll from coronavirus has risen to 170. According to reports at least 7711 people were diagnosed with the disease in various countries.

Also, 124 hospitalized people have been discharged, the Ministry of Health said. The disease has been confirmed in 17 countries. Meanwhile, Google has shut down all its offices in China. Offices in Hong Kong and Taiwan are also closed.

Many restaurants, including McDonald’s, have already closed. This indicates that coronavirus is also affecting China’s financial sector.

Four Pakistani students in Wuhan were confirmed with the virus on Wednesday. China’s top health expert Jong Nanshan said the virus would reach its peak in 10 days and then the situation would be brought under control.

New Delhi: At least 25 people, including 9 women, were killed when a transport bus collided with an autorickshaw in Maharashtra’s Nasik. Both vehicles crashed into the side of the road at the time of the crash. The accident took place at Meshi Phata in northern Maharashtra this afternoon. About 30 people were injured. The state government has announced Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the victims of the accident. 21 bodies have been taken out so far. Rescue operations are in progress.

New Delhi: Supreme Court rejects Mukesh Singh’s plea for rejecting mercy petition in the Nirbhaya case. The petition was rejected by a bench headed by Justice Bhanumati.

 Justice Bhanumati said that the President’s rejection of mercy petition did not mean that the petitions were not considered carefully. Before the mercy plea was considered, the verdicts of the trial court, the High Court and the Supreme Court had been submitted to the President. The bench said the harassment in the jail was not a reason to reject the mercy plea.Mukesh Singh had approached the apex court challenging the rejection of his mercy petition by the President. Meanwhile, another accused in the case, Akshay Kumar, has approached the Supreme Court with a curative petition. The court asked the registry defendant’s lawyer to produce the accompanying documents along with the petition.
