Nirbhaya Case; Supreme Court rejects Mukesh Singh’s plea

Supreme Court 2

New Delhi: Supreme Court rejects Mukesh Singh’s plea for rejecting mercy petition in the Nirbhaya case. The petition was rejected by a bench headed by Justice Bhanumati.

Justice Bhanumati said that the President’s rejection of mercy petition did not mean that the petitions were not considered carefully. Before the mercy plea was considered, the verdicts of the trial court, the High Court and the Supreme Court had been submitted to the President. The bench said the harassment in the jail was not a reason to reject the mercy plea.Mukesh Singh had approached the apex court challenging the rejection of his mercy petition by the President. Meanwhile, another accused in the case, Akshay Kumar, has approached the Supreme Court with a curative petition. The court asked the registry defendant’s lawyer to produce the accompanying documents along with the petition.
