New Delhi: Disposable plastics will be banned in the country. The ban will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will start on January 1. The special committee headed by the central government has decided to ban single-use plastic waste in the wake of rising plastic pollution in the country.
It was also decided to stop the production of disposable plastic waste. The minimum quality of single-use polythene bags will be increased from 50 microns to 100 microns. This will be implemented by September 30.
Chennai: Gold worth Rs 36 crore seized from Salem in Tamil Nadu. A total of 234 kg of gold was seized from a mini lorry while trying to smuggle it to Coimbatore. The illegal gold was seized by the Flying Squad of the Election Commission. Three people have been taken into police custody in connection with the incident. They are being questioned. An investigation is underway into whether the gold was taken for distribution. Earlier in the day, a flying squad of the Election Commission seized about Rs 18 lakh and six kilos of silver from the Chennai railway station.
New Delhi: The banking sector in the country will be paralyzed for four days from today. Today is the second Saturday and tomorrow is Sunday, which is a bank holiday. The strike, called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) against the central government’s decision to privatize public sector banks, will be held on May 15 and 16.
One million employees and officers across the country will join the strike on May 15, 16 against the move to privatize public sector banks. The banking sector will come to a complete standstill during the 48-hour nationwide strike. Public sector, private, foreign, and rural banks will fully participate in the strike called by the National Unity Forum of the nine bank unions. Ahead of the strike, workers wearing masks marched on banks yesterday. Apart from district and town level dharnas, rallies were also held at various centers. Public sector privatization day will be observed on the 15th.
New Delhi: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has said that physics, chemistry, and mathematics will continue to be the major subjects in engineering courses, but it is not mandatory to have studied these subjects at the plus two levels. AICTE has made this clear in its Approval Handbook for the 2021-22 academic year.
Physics, mathematics, and chemistry will continue to be the main subjects for things like mechanical engineering. However, it is said that students studying subjects like textile engineering, agriculture or biotechnology will have an option.
Until now, only students who have studied Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Technical Vocational subjects along with Maths and Physics at Plus Two level are eligible for admission to BE / B.Tech courses.
The AICTE Handbook also states that the respective universities will offer bridge courses to students who have not studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and are eligible for the course.
Bhopal: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan says night curfew will be imposed in Indore and Bhopal due to covid cases increases in the state. The curfew will be imposed on Sunday or Monday night. The passengers coming via air, rail, the road will be screened, he added. The Chief Minister instructed the authorities to make sure people are obeying the rules.
New Delhi: The government has launched a new mobile app as part of a ration card scheme in a country where a ration card can be used anywhere in the country. The ‘Mera Ration App’ is to facilitate the system. The app will be helpful, including identifying nearby ration shops. The application is available in English and Hindi languages. Coming days it will be available in more languages. The app is being developed in collaboration with the National Informatics Center. The goal is for a country to provide services related to a ration card among the beneficiaries of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), migrant workers, FPS dealers, and other relevant partners.
A country can implement a ration card system to ensure the availability of rations through any public distribution center across the country, including migrant workers and their families.
Launched in four states in August 2019, the One Nation One Ration Card system has been rapidly implemented in a very short period. Delivered to more states by December 2020. The project will be completed in Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, and West Bengal in the next few months.
At present 69 crore beneficiaries in the country are using this system. It is estimated that an average of 1.5-1.1 crore transactions takes place every month. The app will be available in 14 languages. Information on the nearest public distribution center and ration grains will be available on the app.
Kochi: The High Court has stayed the orders regularising the temporary employees. The court sought an explanation from the government in the case. An explanation must be given by April 8th.
The order was passed by Justice Devan Ramachandran on a petition filed by some PSC rank-and-file candidates, alleging that the stabilization of temporary employees was against the Supreme Court order.
Stabilizations have been made at Kila, Keltron, Eeta Workers Welfare Board, C-DIT, Forest Industries Travancore Limited, Literacy Mission, Youth Commission, Bureau of Industrial Promotion, LBS, Women’s Commission, and School Kerala.
The Division Bench of the High Court had held that the order of the Supreme Court that the stabilization of temporary persons was illegal was a law of the land and no action should be taken against it.
At the same time, the government explained that the temporary employees were made permanent only in the posts which were not left to the PSC, and no action was taken in violation of the rules. The government told the court that the appointments were made under the Special Rule. The court has asked the government to produce details of the special rule.
Thiruvananthapuram: The notification of the Assembly elections will be issued today as the decision of the fronts regarding the candidates has reached the final stage. Nomination submission will also start with this. Applications can be submitted till 19. Scrutiny on the 20th. The petition can be withdrawn within the 22nd.
The Election Commission has directed that the criteria for submission of nomination papers should be met. Only two candidates will be allowed to submit their nomination papers. Two vehicles can be used. If the rally arrives, only five vehicles will be allowed within the specified distance. The application can also be submitted online. A copy of this can be given to the selector. The deposit can also be paid online.
Agra: Nine people were killed when a Scorpio car collided with a truck on the Agra-Kanpur National Highway. Three people were injured.
The accident took place in the Emadpur area of Agra yesterday morning. The driver of the Scorpio fell asleep and caused the accident. The Scorpio collided with a container truck lined up from Agra as it crossed the median and entered the oncoming vehicle line.
There were 12 people in Scorpio. The bodies of those who died in the accident were sent for post-mortem. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. Agra SSP Bablu Kumar said the vehicle was a Jharkhand registered vehicle.
