Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of rising Covid cases in the state, restrictions are being tightened. As part of this, the police tightened the check. Health experts also warn that Covid cases are on the rise in the state before the end of the second wave. The warning comes in the wake of reports that 55 percent of people are still at risk, according to the ZeroSurvey. DGP Anil Kant directed the district police chiefs to strictly enforce the Lockdown restrictions, taking into account the opinion of experts that the number of cases could reach at least 30,000 per day if vigilance is not taken.

Sub-divisions will be formed under the leadership of DySPs and Assistant Commissioners to strengthen Covid defense activities. The DGP’s directive also states that sub-divisional officers will be responsible for Covid defense operations in the region. Micro-Containment Zones will be set up in areas declared as Container Areas to allow one-way travel only. For this, the help of the panchayat, revenue authorities, and volunteers will be sought.

The existing task force will be expanded in the districts under the leadership of Additional SPs to coordinate Covid controls. Station House Officers will take steps to make mic announcements at key locations regarding covid standards. Campaigning through social media will also be strengthened.

All roads will be closed except for one-way in and out of D category areas. Mobile patrolling and ongoing patrolling will be strengthened in these areas. Vehicle inspection will be strengthened in C category areas. Home quarantine is also proposed to be strictly enforced.

DySP will personally visit and check on the availability of quarantine facilities in the guest workers’ residences. If there is no facility to monitor the covid situation, the district police chiefs will inform the District Disaster Management Authority. Guests will be made aware of the need to maintain social distance. Restrictions on the number of people attending weddings and other ceremonies will be strictly enforced. The state police chief was also directed to take legal action against those violating the regulations.

Mumbai: The death toll from heavy rains and landslides in Maharashtra has risen to 136. Of these, 47 died in a landslide in Raigarh. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in Kolhapur, Raigarh, Ratnagiri, Palghar, Thane, and Nagpur districts.

She said vaccination in the state would be in limbo  if the central government did not allow more vaccines on Sunday.

The first dose of vaccination for health workers and front-runners has reached 100 percent. This week alone, about 1.6 million people were vaccinated. Today there are 1522 vaccination centers. There were 1,380 centers at the government level and 142 centers at the private level. Kannur district was the first state to vaccinate 59,374 people. Thrissur district is just behind Kottayam district with 53,841 people vaccinated and 51,276 people vaccinated.

So far, a total of 1,83,89,973 people in the state have been vaccinated with one or two doses. Of these, 1,28,23,869 were given the first dose and 55,66,104 were given the second dose. According to the 2011 census, 38.39 percent of the total population was given the first dose and 16.66 percent the second dose. According to the census, 53.43 percent of the population over the age of 18 were given the first dose and 23.19 percent the second dose. This is well ahead of the national average.
