Thiruvananthapuram: Transport Minister Antony Raju said that the decision on the uniform color code of tourist buses was implemented following the intervention of the High Court. The government has adopted a liberal approach to changing the fitness period.

The minister clarified that the vehicle inspection will not be temporary and strict continuous inspection will continue. He added that if the vehicles violate the law, the officer to be inspected will also be held responsible.

At the same time, the Minister informed that tourist buses without uniform color codes will be impounded and the vehicle owners can approach the High Court requesting an extension of time.

But the motor vehicle department stopped the travel of two tourist buses that violated the law. Buses coming from Malappuram’s Changaramkulam and Ponnani were stopped by the motor vehicle department at Palakkad’s Ettamthara.

5 days of heavy rain in the state; Yellow Alert declared

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has predicted widespread heavy rains in the state for the next five days. A yellow alert has been announced in six districts today because of heavy rains. Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts are on yellow alert. 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rainfall is expected in 24 hours.

A yellow alert was also declared in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts on Saturday. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Palakkad districts are also warned of heavy rain on Sunday.

On Monday and Tuesday, a yellow alert is in place in all districts except Kannur and Kasaragod. The central meteorological department has issued a yellow alert in some districts, but due to the possibility of isolated heavy thundershowers in the hilly areas, caution similar to the orange alert should be observed in the hilly areas which have received heavy rains in the past few days.
The warning states that people in low-lying areas, riverbanks, and hilly areas prone to landslides should be extremely cautious as the rains continue in the areas that have received heavy rains in the past few days.

Maoist Case: Prof. GN Saibaba acquitted

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has acquitted Delhi University professor GN Saibaba, who was arrested for alleged Maoist links and sentenced to life imprisonment by the trial court. A division bench comprising Justices Rohit Dev and Anil Pansare ordered Saibaba’s immediate release.

The High Court verdict allowed Prof. Saibaba’s appeal challenged the 2017 trial court order in which he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Saibaba, who is physically challenged, is currently in Nagpur Central Jail. The High Court allowed the appeals of the five accused along with Saibaba. One of them died during the appeal hearing.

Pathanamthitta: The witch who performed mantras using minor children at Vasanthi Math in Malayalapuzha, Pathanamthitta, is in police custody. The witchcraft and her husband were taken into custody. Kochi: Police recovered chats from Shafi’s fake FB page. Chats from 2019 are retrieved. The police said that the conversations in more than 100 pages will be examined in detail and the missing cases in three districts will be investigated.
The police will check the cases in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts. Also check in cases that have not been proven yet. ADGP has been directed to prepare a special action plan. The decision was taken at a meeting held in Kochi.

The police have decided to investigate in detail the cases of the disappearance of women in the last five years in the state.

The cases of missing women in the Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam districts are mainly investigated. There are 13 missing cases in Ernakulam and 12 in Pathanamthitta. In these cases, the investigation was stalled. Three of the missing cases in Pathanamthitta are within the Aranmula police station area where the double human sacrifice took place in Elantur.

25 cases in two districts are being re-examined in detail. The missing cases in the Kottayam district are also being re-investigated. According to reports, the district police chiefs will assess the progress of the case investigation.
