Chandigarh: Former Punjab minister Sundar Sham Arora has been arrested in a case where he offered a bribe of half a crore to the Vigilance Bureau to save him from corruption cases. Former Punjab Minister Sundar Sham Arora was caught by the Vigilance Bureau late last night. The Vigilance Chief disclosed the entire matter in a press conference. Arora will be produced in court today. Sundar Sham Arora was a minister in Captain Amarinder Singh’s government.

The former vigilance minister is facing investigation in three cases including illegal acquisition of property. The team interrogated Arora twice. Realizing that a proper investigation was underway and that the vigilance had collected evidence against him, Arora planned to bribe AIG Manmohan Singh, who was investigating the case. It was also said that the officer will be offered a bribe of Rs 1 crore and will deliver the money to his home.

AIG Manmohan told his senior officers about this. The matter was immediately brought to the attention of the Chief Minister. After this, a trap was laid to catch the accused. The official directed the former minister to reach Cosmo Mall in Sirakpur with Rs.50 lakh. Vigilance arrested the former minister who arrived with the money. Meanwhile, two government witnesses were produced. Along with this, a case has been registered and investigation has been started.

This is the arrest of three former ministers in six months. Earlier, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and Bharat Bhushan Ashu, who were ministers in the Captain’s government, were arrested.

Chennai: Police raided a house and arrested six people in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvannamalai following a complaint of human sacrifice. Five members of the family and the sorcerer were arrested who had been performing puja after closing their house for three days. The Tehsildar and the police entered the house using JCB machines after threatening to sacrifice themselves if the puja was disturbed.

For the past three days, the puja was being held at the house of Taramani, who lives in Arani SV Nagar in the Tiruvannamalai district. Neighbors heard crying from the house in the morning and informed the police and tehsildar. Then Tehsildar and police reached the spot and asked to open the door but the family refused to open it. Those inside shouted that if he tried to open the door, he would kill himself by slitting his throat and not disturb the puja. With this, all the villagers gathered outside the human sacrifice became angry. When the family did not cooperate, the police sought the help of the fire brigade. After that, the police and fire brigade officers broke the door of the house with JCB and entered and arrested the people who practiced witchcraft.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has stayed the Bombay High Court verdict acquitting Professor GN Saibaba in the Maoist case, quashing the acquittal of Prof. Saibaba. A bench headed by Justice MR Shah observed that the High Court had taken its decision without considering the merits of the case. The action was taken in consideration of the Maharashtra government’s appeal against Saibaba’s acquittal.
Yesterday, the government approached the Supreme Court with an appeal after the High Court verdict. Accepting the government’s argument that the petition should be heard urgently, a special sitting was held today.
The Bombay High Court yesterday acquitted Delhi University professor GN Saibaba, who was arrested on charges of Maoist links and sentenced to life imprisonment by the trial court. The High Court verdict allowed Prof Saibaba’s appeal challenging the 2017 trial court order in which he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Saibaba, who is physically challenged, is currently in Nagpur Central Jail.
