Relief for Actor Soubin Shahir: Time Extended to Appear in Financial Fraud Case

0

Kochi: Actor Soubin Shahir has been granted an extension to appear before the investigation team in connection with the financial fraud case related to the movie Manjummel Boys. He has now been asked to appear on June 27 instead of the initially scheduled date this Friday.

Police had earlier submitted an investigation report against the producers of Manjummel Boys, stating that they had allegedly committed planned fraud and misled the complainant into believing that the first phase of the project was complete.

Despite the producers’ plea to dismiss the financial fraud case, the High Court allowed the police to continue the investigation. The complaint was filed by Siraj Valiyathura from Maradu, who alleged that he invested nearly ₹7 crore in the project and was denied his profit share.

The producers, however, claimed that they were unable to pay the promised amount on time due to financial constraints and delays in the shooting schedule, leading to further losses.

Malayali Mountaineer Sheikh Hasan Khan Rescued from Denali Mountain

Malayali mountaineer Sheikh Hasan Khan, who had been stranded on Denali Mountain in North America, has been found safe. He and a fellow climber from Tamil Nadu were located by rescue teams, and efforts are ongoing to bring them down to safety, according to a statement from the Governor’s Office in Alaska.

Khan found himself trapped during a mission to hoist the Indian flag on the peak in recognition of Operation Sindoor, a military evacuation effort. He had been at a base camp located at an altitude of 17,000 feet, where adverse weather conditions, including a severe storm, made rescue operations particularly challenging. The base camp had no access to food or water, further complicating the situation.

Khan is a well-known climber who has previously scaled Mount Everest and other notable peaks. He currently works as a section officer in the Finance Department. In light of his situation, MP Dr. Shashi Tharoor wrote to the Ministry of External Affairs requesting immediate intervention. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging action.

Typically, storms of such intensity are rare on Denali, but Khan was able to communicate his plight via a satellite phone call to a news outlet, Twentyfour, which helped bring attention to his rescue.

Voting has begun in Nilambur, where a highly anticipated political contest is taking place involving three major alliances and independent candidate P.V. Anvar. A total of 263 polling booths have been set up, including 59 new stations. Among these, 14 booths are classified as sensitive.

Candidates from all major alliances are expected to cast their votes in the morning. Interestingly, P.V. Anvar, who is contesting as an independent, is not registered to vote in the constituency. Voters formed long queues early in the morning at booths located in Nilambur town, the municipal area, and across the seven panchayats including Pothukal, Edakkara, Amarambalam, Karulai, Vazhikkadavu, Mootthedam, and Chungathara.

M. Swaraj, the LDF candidate, cast his vote at booth number 202 in Mankuth LP School, accompanied by his father. Theater artist and actress Nilambur Ayisha voted at Mukkatt LP School. Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed to ensure the election proceeds smoothly.

The constituency comprises seven panchayats and one municipality. Of the 263 booths, three are located within forest areas, reflecting the region’s unique geography. A total of 1,301 officials, including 316 presiding officers and 975 polling staff, are overseeing the process. Security has been tightened in 11 sensitive booths across seven zones. The election result will be announced on Monday.

In the wake of escalating conflict in Iran, the first flight carrying Indian nationals evacuated from the region arrived in New Delhi on Thursday, June 19. The flight, which departed from Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, brought back 110 Indian citizens. Among them, 90 were from Jammu and Kashmir, while the remaining 20 hailed from other states. The NORKA department confirmed that no Malayalis were part of this group.

Senior officials were present at the airport to receive the returnees. Authorities reported that 12 Malayali students currently in Tehran have contacted the Indian embassy, and arrangements are being made for their return in the coming days. Additionally, around 600 Indian students have already been relocated from Tehran to Qom. Some individuals have also made their way independently to various border points and are expected to return to India soon.

With the Iran-Israel tensions intensifying, efforts to move Indian citizens to safer locations are ongoing. Should the situation deteriorate further, the Ministry of External Affairs estimates that approximately 25,000 Indians may need to be evacuated from Israel.
