India and Canada Resume Diplomatic Relations

0

Ottawa: India and Canada have agreed to restore diplomatic relations after a prolonged period of tension. The decision was made following a discussion between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.

Diplomatic relations had soured last year after former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged India’s involvement in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. In the aftermath, both countries had expelled each other’s diplomats.

Now, both nations have agreed to reinstate ambassadors and appoint new high commissioners. Prime Minister Modi expressed optimism about the renewed ties, stating that India and Canada share strong democratic values such as freedom and the rule of law. This marks Modi’s first visit to Canada in over a decade.

Items such as disposable plates, cups, straws, covers, and bakery boxes are now prohibited from use and sale in these areas.

The ban also extends to official functions, auditoriums, hotels, and restaurants, specifically targeting plastic water bottles under 5 litres and soft drink bottles under 2 litres, as well as plastic spoons, knives, and cups. The court directed that these restrictions be implemented from October 2, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

The bench comprising Justices Bechu Kurian Thomas and P. Gopinath advised the state to make this part of licensing conditions for hotels. The court also urged authorities to set up drinking water kiosks and encourage the use of steel or copper tumblers. Local bodies are tasked with ensuring that plastic waste is not dumped into water bodies.

“Indians Must Leave Tehran Immediately”: Strict Advisory from Ministry of External Affairs

0

Tehran – Amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a strict advisory urging all Indian nationals in Tehran to leave the city immediately. The directive applies regardless of visa type, and the MEA emphasized the need to move to safer locations as quickly as possible. The ministry also advised Indians not to be accompanied by foreign nationals during the evacuation process.

The advisory comes in the wake of a stern warning from the Israeli Defense Minister, who stated that residents of Tehran may have to “pay the price” for Iran’s recent attacks. In light of this threat, India has taken urgent steps to ensure the safety of its citizens.

The Indian government has reportedly decided to evacuate students enrolled in various universities through the Armenian border. With Iran’s borders currently open, officials expect the evacuation process to proceed without major obstacles. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has already held discussions with his Armenian counterpart to coordinate the effort, which is expected to be executed swiftly.

The initial focus will be on evacuating students stranded in Tehran. Earlier, students had informed the MEA about the deteriorating security situation and urged for the evacuation process to be expedited. Many reported missile and bomb strikes near their accommodation, disruption of basic utilities like drinking water, and challenges in internet connectivity, which affected the timely receipt of official communications.

Reports indicate that a large number of Indians remain trapped in various cities across Iran, with over 1,500 of them being students.
