Nature’s law – Only the fittest survives
For decades it’s known that Mullapperiyar issue persists. But till now, no one in this state was concerned or was powerful enough to do something about it. With sarcasm to Kerala’s political will power (which the media used to call, power politics and all that crap); I have a solution to put forward before the Government of Kerala. Why don’t you give Idukki, Ernakulam and Kottayam to Tamilnadu so that the people of those districts survive?
Penny pinching
Ed Wood was an American film director who completes shooting a film in 5 days or less. Unlike other directors who only shoot 2-3 scenes per day, Wood used to take 30 scenes. Analysts say he measured creativity on the ground of how much film a director exposes and the number of days the director completes shooting a film (lesser the better).
Jayaraj is still considered to be one of the best directors. His Vidyarambam, Paithrukam, etc represents the golden age of Malayalam films. Lately he is tarnishing his own image. Jayaraj couldn’t be compared with Ed Wood. Jayaraj got talent but he is adamant not to use it except to minimize budget.
Of late Jayaraj has been exceptionally good in shooting inexpensively while misguiding the audience and everyone in the movie business food chain. The stinginess reached its zenith with his last film The Train. Train was a blunder happened to Mammootty and all others associated with the film except the director. Now Jayaraj is back with another ‘cheap’ film.
Acting
Enacting Prem Nazir, Jayaram did the most natural role in his life. Sharada did a fine job and people who love her wont be disappointed. Sarayu as Vani played an actress, it is similar to that she ordained in Sahasram. With her acting potentiality we can expect to see her as heroine in time to come. Padmapriya did her best to portray the character. Sidheek did fine job even though his white wig couldn’t cover some portions of natural hair. Mamtha Mohandas was ok.
The wasted opportunity
The idea for story was good and it had the stuff to make a mega hit. The investigation done on a suicide happened in 70s Malayalam filmdom, and the guilty is brought under the law. Isn’t it good? Yes, but Nayika faltered in screenplay and direction stage. If it were done by some enthusiastic filmmakers, Nayika would have been a big hit. Nayika proves again that a good idea in incompetent hand is still a bad idea.
First half of the film is dull. The film gains a little grip with arrival of Jayaram representing Prem Nazir. The rest of film is a drag and has no emotions. Comedy scenes are worst. But the film is bigger and better than Jayaraj’s last outing ‘The Train’
