Kozhikode: West Nile fever has been confirmed in 10 people in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts. Four infected people are from Kozhikode district. The condition of a Kozhikode district resident who is being treated in a private hospital is very serious. The disease was confirmed to be West Nile fever when the blood and spinal fluid of those who showed symptoms were tested at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory of the Medical College Microbiology Department. The secretions were then sent to the National Institute of Virology, where it was confirmed as West Nile fever. Symptoms include fever, headache, seizures, behavioral changes, loss of consciousness, and weakness in limbs. Symptoms of encephalitis are similar.
