Do not deny treatment to covid patients: health department issued covid guidelines

Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George has said that the health department has issued guidelines due to the increasing number of covid cases in the state. The guidelines were released on the basis of the Covid review meeting held the previous day. Government and private hospitals should set up beds specifically for treating covid patients. If a patient undergoing treatment is confirmed to be infected with Covid-19, treatment must be guaranteed in the same hospital without denying treatment. The samples of those who are positive for covid should be sent for WGS (Whole Genome Sequencing) test from every district according to the existing norms. The Minister also stated that District Surveillance Officers should ensure this.

People with diabetes, hypertension, cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, lung disease and other diseases, pregnant women, children and the elderly must wear masks in public places and hospitals. People over 60 years of age, people with diabetes, hypertension, cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, etc., if they have symptoms of Covid-19, must undergo RTPCR test and receive treatment according to the standards.

Patients and attendants arriving at the hospital must wear masks. Health workers must wear masks inside the hospital. This should be ensured by all District Medical Officers.

Asha workers and field staff should strengthen efforts to detect pregnant women with influenza symptoms. Pregnant women should be tested for covid if they have symptoms. Awareness should be raised about the need to take two doses of the covid vaccine and a precautionary dose.

People with lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, other serious diseases, people over 60 years of age, pregnant women, children, and obese people should take special precautions to prevent the spread of Covid-19. If they have symptoms of covid, they should seek immediate treatment. Bed-patients and palliative care patients at home should take precautionary measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

There should not be a situation where treatment is not available to any patient who needs treatment due to covid. A certain number of beds should be set aside in all government and private hospitals for covid patients who require inpatient treatment.

If a person under treatment in any hospital is confirmed to have covid, follow-up treatment should be ensured in the same hospital in an area specially reserved for covid patients. District Medical Officers should ensure that these facilities are provided in Government/Private Hospitals and patients are provided with treatment.
