Suspension of teachers in the incident of winning the exam, including the student who wrote Jai Sriram on the answer sheet of Pharmacy course. The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh.The students of Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh passed by writing Jai Shri Ram and names of cricket players on the answer sheet. Students who wrote phrases like ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and names of cricketers like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya were won over by the teachers.
The incident came to light when a former student of the university applied to get the answer sheets under the Right to Information Act
Two teachers were suspended in the incident. The action is against Vinay Verma and Ashish Gupta. Officials also informed that action will be taken to dismiss both of them.
The incident came to light when Divyanshu Singh, an alumnus of the university, applied to get the answer sheets under the Right to Information Act on August 3 last year. Divyanshu Singh applied to re-evaluate the answer sheets of 18 students studying for the first year pharmacy course by giving their roll numbers. Divyanshu Singh also accused professors Vinay Verma and Ashish Gupta of taking bribes to help students succeed. A written complaint was also lodged with the Governor who is also the Chancellor.
The governor ordered an inquiry into the complaint. The examination paper was then re-evaluated by an inquiry committee appointed by the university administration. Vice-Chancellor Vandana Singh told India Today that the committee had recommended sacking of Vinay Verma and Ashish Gupta for making the wrong assessment.
Earlier, allegations were raised against Professor Vinay Verma in the incident of taking a mobile phone to the exam hall after taking money. Vinay Verma was subsequently removed from administrative duties.
