HIV infection for those who have had vampire facials; An investigation has been resumed to find the source

Vampire facials are now trending in the beauty world. This facial rejuvenation treatment using Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) extracted from their own blood is similar to scalp PRP treatment for hair growth.

Vampire facial is known as a cost-effective and highly effective cosmetic procedure. That is why many people are coming forward to do this today. But now there is a shocking news about the vampire facial.

The news is that more people who received these facials from a spa that operated in New Mexico in the United States have tested positive for HIV. With this, the authorities have started an investigation to find the source of this. In 2018, a person who received a vampire facial at a spa in New Mexico tested positive for HIV.

Then the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of America conducted an inspection and closed this facility. Blood is collected from a vein in a person’s arm and the platelets are separated. Then they are injected into the face using very fine needles. It was discovered that the injection with an unsterilized needle was behind the HIV infection.

Following this, the New Mexico Department of Health also offered free HIV testing to all facialists at the spa. Recently one more person who had a vampire facial from here has been diagnosed with HIV infection. With this, this investigation started again.

The CDC report also has data on people who have been diagnosed with HIV after a facial at a spa. In 2018, the infection was first detected in a middle-aged woman. They had no history of drug use, any blood transfusion treatment, or sexual contact with HIV-infected individuals. In the same year, another middle-aged woman was also diagnosed with the infection.

It was found that blood was drawn here, components were separated and injected back into the body without taking adequate safety measures. Blood was stored in unlabeled tubes outside the kitchen slab and in the kitchen fridge with food items. In 2022, the court ruled that the spa owner was guilty. He was then sentenced to three and a half years in prison.

According to the CDC and the Department of Health, 59 people who visited the spa were at risk of contracting HIV. 20 of them have done vampire facials. But still the source of this HIV infection in the first place has not been found yet.
