Social media banned in Sri Lanka

Colombo: Social media in Sri Lanka has been banned from mounting attacks against Muslim mosques. Facebook and Whatsapp were temporarily prohibited by the aim of preventing the spread of violence.

Following a dispute over Facebook, the Muslim mosque was stoned in a Christian majority area in the city of Chilau, on the west coast. Stoning has been done on a Muslim-owned market.

The owner of the Facebook post has been arrested. Those attacked Muslim youth was also arrested.

Attempt to influence the voters; Polling agent arrested

New Delhi: A polling agent has been arrested for attempting to influence voters in Faridabad in Haryana. The incident happened on May 12 in the sixth phase of elections. The video with its visual contents was viral in social media.

The Election Commissioner confirmed that the polling agent was arrested by the police on Sunday afternoon and the Commission was examining the case in detail. Sanjay Kumar, the election observer, will be investigating.

A woman gives a pointer to the vote to help her vote on a particular party’s symbol in the voting machines. It repeated the same when two other woman voters arrived at her seat soon afterward. Several names have approached the Election Commission seeking action against the polling agent.

Kottayam: PJ Joseph is appointed as chairman of Kerala Congress (M) as temporary. Party General Secretary Joy Abraham said that the working chairman should be given a temporary responsibility till the new chairman is elected by the party constitution.

KM Mani Memorial Celebrations will be held at Mannam Memorial Hall near Secretariat on Wednesday. After the death of KM Mani, party chairman, party parliamentary leader will appoint new people in a time-bound manner and the procedure is on for this is on progress, Joy said in a press release.

Control of heavy vehicles on the Thamarassery pass

Due to development works on the Thamarassery Pass road, large vehicles will be banned from tomorrow (from May 14).  A meeting of District Collector said the multi-task vehicles including the bus and truck coming from Malappuram in Kozhikode would be diverted from Nadukani and Kuttiyadi for the next two weeks.

Kozhikode RTO AK Sasikumar, Thamarassery Traffic SI U Rajan and NH Executive Engineer Vinayaraj were also present at the meeting.

Bus Accident; 13 Killed in Andra Pradesh

Hyderabad: At least 13 people have been killed when a bus and a van crashed in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Many people were injured.

Scania Bus owned by SRS Travels was hit by the accident. The incident happened on Saturday evening at Veldurt in Kurnool.

The Intelligence Bureau has warned that terrorist organizations like Jama’at-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Islamic State (IS) are planning to launch a suicide attack on the day of Buddhist ceremonies. The report says that the suicide bomber will come in the form of a pregnant woman in a Buddhist temple or Hindu temple. The officials deployed tight security in the area following the report.

Ayodhya land dispute case; The Supreme Court extended the period till August 15

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today extended the intermediate committee into the Ayodhya land dispute case. The deadline is extended until August 15. The Constitution Bench ordered after Supreme Court considering the time limit for the extension of the case.

The committee had given prior notice to the committee for eight weeks. The Chief Justice said that the committee had made progress in mediation discussions. The Muslim organizations supported the extension of the mediatorial talks. The Chief Justice said that the registry should notify any complaints regarding the veracity of the documents.

At least 50 people were killed when a boat carrying immigrants capsized in Tunisia. At least 16 people have been rescued, the official said. Several people have gone missing. The search for these people is in progress. The accident occurred 40 nautical miles away from the harbor. Thousands of immigrants are trying to enter Europe every year.
