Mumbai: BJP gives a huge setback ahead of Maharashtra Assembly polls. Reports say that six MLAs from the Congress will join the BJP. Sakri MLA DS Ahire, Shirpur MLA Kashiram Pawara, Malad MLA Aslam Sheikh, Chikali MLA Rahul Bondre, Pantherpur MLA Bharat Bhalke and Akkalkot MLA Siddaram Mehtre are all set to leave the Congress.

Reports say that these leaders have informed the BJP leadership of their desire to join the BJP. In the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and BJP state president Chandrakant Patil, Congress MLAs may accept the BJP membership.

There are also reports that BJP may give these leaders a ticket to contest the upcoming assembly elections. Congress leader and actress Urmila Matondkar resigned last night Reports say Urmila may be joining the Shiv Sena. Leaders like Kripashankar Singh, a former Maharashtra minister, also left the Congress recently.

The Congress is contesting in Maharashtra with the NCP. The two parties have agreed on 125 seats each. The allies will contest all 38 seats. The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is expected to be swept away this year as well. Maharashtra Assembly Elections will be held on October 21. Count on the 24th.

Chandigarh: The BJP on Monday released its first list of candidates for the Haryana Assembly elections. In the first phase, 78 people made the list. In Haryana, a state where many athletes have been cast, the BJP has given priority to sportspersons.

Wrestlers Yogeshwar Dutt and Babita Phogat and former Indian hockey captain Sandeep Singh have been given seats. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khatter will contest the 2014 Karnal seat. BJP state president Subhash Barala will seek votes from Tohana. Also, Yogeshwar Dutt will contest from Baroda, Babita Phogat from Dadri and Sandeep Singh from Pehowa.

There are 2 Muslim candidates and 9 women on the list. Meanwhile, the party, which has once again given the chance to 38 sitting MLAs, has dropped seven.

The BJP central election committee had convened a few days ago to decide on the candidature of Haryana and Maharashtra. Haryana has 90 seats. The BJP won 47 seats in the 2014 elections. The ruling Congress, however, won 15 seats and INLD won 19. The Haryana assembly elections will be held on October 21.

Gandhinagar: At least 18 killed in road accident in Gujarat. The incident happened in Thrissuliyaghatt Ambaji, Gujarat. 30 more injured in the accident. The condition of the injured is critical. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolence in the incident.

New Delhi: The former Finance Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram’s bail plea has been rejected by the court again. The bail plea in INX media case has been rejected by the Delhi High Court. The court hinted that there is a chance to influence the witness. This is the second time the court denies plea of Chidambaram in INX Media case.

He was arrested on August 21 in INX Media case. He is in judicial custody in Tihar jail. The Court sends him in custody till October 3.

BJP announces candidates for assembly by-elections. The BJP has announced the 32 candidates for the by-election after the crucial central election committee meeting convened by the BJP. The by-election will be held on October 21 in Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Punjab, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Telangana.

Uttar Pradesh has ten assembly seats in the by-elections held in 13 states. There are five constituencies in Kerala and four in Assam. The party also announced candidates for the by-election in five constituencies. The candidates for BJP are decided as S Suresh in Vattiyoorkavu and K Surendran as BJP state general secretary in Konni. Rajendra Shanthi’s of Manjeswaram, C G Rajagopal of Ernakulam and K P Prakash Babu of Aroor will contest.

Elections are being held for the two vacant constituencies in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Sikkim, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Telangana. The by-elections for the October 21 assembly polls will be held in 51 assembly seats along with the Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections. Candidates for the remaining seats will be announced soon, the party said in a press release. The party is in the background of the Maharashtra-Haryana assembly elections. BJP President Amit Shah and Working President JP Nadda arrived in New Delhi to attend the meeting.
