NEGATIVES:

1: PREDICTABLE ENDING.

2: MEDIOCRE MUSIC.

ONE WORD: A complete fun pack comedy entertainer.

Lootcase revolves around Nandan Kumar who works as a printing press operator. One day accidentally he discovers a suitcase full of cash and some documents. He takes the suitcase with himself but some dangerous gangster is followed to find the suitcase. Rest of the story unfolds the chase between Nandan and gangsters to have the suitcase.

The movie is directed by debutant Rajesh Krishnan and the story and screenplay are handled by Kapil Sawant and Rajesh Krishnan, the movie comes under the production of Fox Star Studios and Soda Films which now streaming online through Disney+Hotstar Premium.

The direction made by Rajesh Krishnan was truly passionate in all means, his whole making was flawless and the execution-style was adequate to make an entertaining comedy thriller. Due to the neat and clean direction, there were no errors in any situations and nothing in the making looked cliche or overdramatic. The direction has reminded the making style of movies like Delhi Belly, Blackmail, Fukrey etc however the excesses of fun moments and situations will make those resemblances vanish.

The story is not something we haven’t seen before but the components the writers had added into the plot was fresh and amusing to watch. The written way of events from the beginning to the climax in the story is convincing. The focus of the story has two angles, one aspect emphasis on the central character Nandan and other on gangsters so both these angles have the posture pair of amusement and fun, therefore, consistent writing is funny and amusing throughout the film.

To lead the plot there are various incidents and occurrences in the screenplay and all these circumstances are brilliantly written which doesn’t give any sort of confusions. Interestingly the situational comedies were funny and entertaining, there were hilarious comedies and all of it had effectively written to engage the viewers. The combined elements of comedies, family sentiments, betrayal, actions were carried out in a calculated way so the momentum was finely balanced all over the screenplay also the narrative way of storytelling doesn’t get fallen at any areas.

Kunal Khemu as Nandan Kumar was remarkable throughout the film, the best part was his natural way of acting. His various expressions on crucial scenes were brilliant and also the innocence in bus character was acted out effectively. The stunning dialogue delivery in both the crucial scenes and comedy scenes were delivered intently. The undertaking of various expressions in many different situations was strongly seen in his whole acting which deserves big thumbs up. Rashika Dugal as Lata the wife of central character Nandan did an authentic performance, the characteristic of a responsible homemaker was safer in her hands. The combination scene with Kunal was both funny and entertaining to watch also their chemistry had worked out well. Ranvir Shorey as Inspector Kolte did a fantastic job as a ruthless police officer, his unique style and aggression need to be mention. Vijay Raaz as one the gangster was outstanding, I really enjoyed his way of acting and all of his actions and his situational humour of Nat Geo animal reference had set out the laugh. Gajaraj Rao as the minister who has his own method of managing the other to do his work was humorous to watch.

The musical work for the film is composed by Rohan-Vinayak and Amar Mangrulkar and the background score is tuned by Sameer Uddin. The song ”Laal Rang Ki Peti” made by Amar Mangrulkar had matched to set the scenes and the tune was good to hear, also the vocals of Vivek Hariharan was great. The song ’Pavitra Party’ had created a party mood and also the rap lyrics in it was good to set the scene. The background score had really worked in crucial scenes to bring out curiosity. Also, the background score at humour scene was also matching, some specific background score at the scenes of gangsters was amazing. The cinematography of Sanu John Varghese was remarkable, the method he used for the night shots were super and the lighting techniques to those shots look incredible. The indoor shots were also captured flawlessly. The visuals of climax scenes were terrific by its striking camera movements. No sort of mismatches was found in the editing of Anand Surabaya, the cuts are perfect without making any errors.

So overall the film Lootcase had given me a fair delightful experience because of its perfect settled screenplay and direction, also the performance by actors makes the movie glassier. A fun ride with the best interesting and entertaining comedies, that won’t disappoint anyone, a perfect choice to watch out with our loved once.

 VERDICT: WORTH WATCH ENTERTAINER.

Raat Akeli Hai Review – A worth watch movie that offers an unpredictable ending

Review for RAAT AKELI HAI.

• Language: HINDI.

• Genre: SUSPENSE CRIME THRILLER.

• PREMIERED ON NETFLIX.

• REVIEW BY ARUNJYOTHI.R.VALIYAVEETIL.

POSITIVES:

1: DIRECTION

2: STORY & SCREENPLAY.

3: PERFORMANCE OF ACTORS.

4: CINEMATOGRAPHY.

5: BACKGROUND SCORE.

NEGATIVES:

1: UNWANTED SONGS.

2: SLOW PACED MAKING.

3: RESEMBLANCES TO THE HOLLYWOOD FILM KNIVES OUT.

ONE WORD: A worth watch movie that offers an unpredictable ending.

The plot of Raat Akeli Hai revolves around the mystery of a high profile murder that happens in a remote town. The horrifying mysterious murder is followed on an investigation by the clever minded police officer called Jatil Yadav played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Through the investigation, he gets deep into the dark past and virulent system of the victims family which is further followed by numerous twist and turns.

The film is directed by the debutant Honey Trehan and produced by Abhishek Chaubey and Ronnie Screwvala which is now streaming online through Netflix. The direction of Honey Trehan was realistic and his whole making had ended up to a fine level. As suspense oriented crime film until the ending the movie offers enough component to make the viewers thrill and also to find out the ultimate suspense the whole film offers the right amount of curiosity and eagerness.

The story had got the best right elements in making both with the suspense and mystery so eventually, the screenplay written by Smita Singh had fairly worked out according to the plot to make the viewers engage within the film. But those who have watched the Hollywood film ’Knives Out’ will find some similarity to its screenplay. There are many characters in the film which have a crucial involvement with many important subplots and each of these subplots were written rightly and it seizes to the right path where the conclusive ending lies. The building of various connections between the different characters leading to the climax was also convincing without leaving any sort of confusions.

The first half was neat taking enough time to establish the story but the second part was slow in pace which may leave the viewers to take a break and something that can crack the ongoing. Also, the lengthy duration was bothering from the second half, felt too exhausted by the duration, the makers could have focused to trim. So by this lengthy duration and sort of over detailing viewers may get clumsy at some point that may lead to skip or fast-forward some part to settle down with on knowing the head behind the crime. Nevertheless, the movie may bore at some point but still, the ending is surprising with an unexpected shocking climax and the incidents leading to it will resolve the small issue relating to ’Raat Akeli Hai’.

Another interesting thing I liked in the direction of Honey Tehran was the right choice of talented actors. Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Inspector Jatil Yadav did a spectacular performance. No doubt it’s yet another top-class work of him, his involving enactment and also the mannerism for his character was rectified brilliantly. This particular characters ’Jatil Yadav demands many intensities and those whole qualities were seen lustrously on his performance. The dialogue delivery was also wonderful particularly at the investigation time with the crucial characters. Moreover, the qualities of an investigative police officer were undertaken accurately also a natural way of behaving was seen on his whole performance. All in all, as usual, Nawazuddin Siddiqui delivered yet another exceptional performance. The character ’Radha’ handled by Radhika Apte was also remarkable. Her face unfolding the various expression was a treat to watch. Her anger and frustration which the character demands was given fully by her. A mysterious shade in her character was also maintained by her accurately. Padmavati Rao, Swetha Tripathi and Shivani Raghuvanshi both did a notable performance, especially from the second half. Aditya Srivastava, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Nishant Dahiya also did complete justice to their respective supporting characters.

There musical work composed by Sneha Khanwalkar was mediocre but shines in making the best background score. The two songs in the movie were felt unwanted which doesn’t match in setting the scenarios. Those songs were added in a crucial scene and it was felt like a usual Bollywood routine which could have been avoided. But the background score was excellent, in formulating the right tone of the premise the BGM had stood up in the exact correct level. The background tunes at the climax and also the significant scenes where the story develops had matched flawlessly in making out the vivid momentum. The cinematography by Pankaj Kumar was also fantastic, the visuals of remote villages were captured according to the story. The lighting methods used in night shots particularly at the outdoor scenes were top class. The camera movements for the chasing scenes were also taken perfectly. The editing made by A. Sreekar Prasad was top class without any sort of single matches also the cuts were perfect but he could have been made advice to trim the lengthy duration of the film.

So overall ’Raat Akeli Hai’ won’t disappoint for the time we are spending, it has bright facets to make the audience thrill but the long duration and resemblances to the popular movie ’Knives Out’ may displease at some point.

• VERDICT: WORTH WATCH.

1: PREDICTABLE STORYLINE.

•ONE WORD: A fascinating journey to the world of Shakuntala Devi.

The film unfolds the story of Shakunthala Devi who can solve any kind of mathematical calculations. She migrates to England to look after her family. The world gets fond of her way of doing mathematics and further, she holds a world record on solving the fastest mathematics equation. Eventually, she becomes rich but the relationship with her daughter gets scattered. Rest of the story unfolds the life of Shakunthala Devi and her daughter.

The movie is directed by Anu Menon whereas the story and screenplay are written by Ishita Moitra, the movie comes under the banner of Sony Pictures Networks India and the online distribution is done by Amazon Prime Videos.

First of all the filmmaker, Anu Menon deserves a huge applause for bringing out a beautiful biographical drama. As a world-famous Mathematician, Shakuntala Devi is well known for solving tricky calculations but everyone doesn’t know much about her personal life and in this biographical drama it’s all about her life and her adventurous world of maths.

Starting with the direction, Anu Menon had shown her excellence in filmmaking. The entire direction held by her was passionate about the clever way of engaging execution. In all aspects, the life of Shakuntala Devi was brought effectively by the director without giving any kind of confusions. The interesting fact I found in the direction of Anu Menon was the change of tone, the transition of periods comprising with factors like sentiments, parenthood, romance, humour and betrayal was conducted authentically according to the plot.

The various circumstances wrote in the story faced by the central character have many occurrences of various sentiments and these various human emotions have been brilliantly implemented in the screenplay too. Importantly, the screenplay hasn’t lost any of its grasps not even for a single moment which completely makes the film enjoyable and charming. Like mentioned above the screenwriters had successfully won in writing all the emotions and by the constructively making the entire film as one of the greatest films of this year.

The dialogues written by Ishita Moitra are another winning highlight of the film. Each and every dialogue was amazingly written especially at the emotional scenes. The words written by Ishita Moitra were having the power to contrive the viewers in which one can genuinely feel the depth. None of the dialogues was dramatic and that’s what I liked the most. As a periodical movie, the conversations lead by each character in a different period was according to its times, the taking style was precise. Also in the dialogue, the right rhythm was present in every scenario, especially at the scenes of mother-daughter, all their fight, their love and their sorrows were having the perfect matching words for setting the adequate momentum.

Vidya Balan as Shakuntala Devi was absolutely outstanding, it was her stealing show. I was really speechless by seeing her performance, she was not acting she was living as Shakuntala Devi. It was happy to see her natural way of acting, the stunning way of getting into the character was also extraordinary. The various kinds of emotions which she expresses give the right impact for the plot. The change of behaviour in the character was detained faultlessly, really liked the innocence which she portrays in the first part, also her emotional scenes implies the modest quality acting. Also, the dialogue delivery held specially at the situational comedy scenes was flawless. Sanya Malhotra as Anupama Banerji the daughter of Shakuntala Devi did a terrific performance. Her chemistry with Vidya Balan was strong which gives the true love and affection of a mother and daughter also, the emotional scenes paired with Vidya were mindblowing, and the desperateness of a daughter who lacks the affection of a mother was tackled up ideally. Honestly, it was a delight to watch their sharing combination which clearly makes them a best formidable pair of a loving mother and daughter.

Amit Sadh as Ajay Abay Kumar and Jisshu Sengupta as Paritosh Banerji did a notable performance. Their respective husband roles were interesting and good to watch and both of them did complete justice to their supporting characters. Araina Nand as 8-year old Shakuntala Devi and Spendan Chaturvedi as 12-year-old Shakuntala Devi also did a noteworthy performance.

The musical work for the film is composed by Sachin-Jigar and the background score is tuned by Karan Kulkarni. Among the various composition, the song ’Paheli’ sung by Shreya Ghoshal was too melodious, the tune and magical voice of Shreya had given the true bond of mother-daughter love. Another song called ’Rani Hindustani’ sung by Sunidhi Chauhan made the means of fun to show the manner of the central character. The song ’Jhilmil Piya’ by Benny Dayal and Monali Thakur was nice to set the mood for a romantic date just like in the movie. Also, the song ’Pass Nahi Toh Fail Nahi’ sung by Sunidhi Chauhan was good with a fine match of teacher-student kindness, can’t find in the movie but present in youtube. The background score made by Karan Kulkarni was significant, to formulate the perfect scenarios Karan had given his promising effort. To fix the mood every background tunes were felt realistic particularly at the emotional scenes because those fine tunes will make the viewers feel and realize more depth and intensity.

The cinematography of Keiko Nakahara was awesome, the visuals of Britan was captured impeccably. The lighting technique used in the indoor scenes was also perfect and the various frames showing the combination scenes of Vidya Balan and Sanya Malhotra were appealing to watch. The enditing of Antara Lahiri was favourable with perfect cuts that haven’t given any mismatches in viewing. Credits should be also given to the heads behind who had involved in the Art Department and Costume Department. The periodical changes in the set were realistic and also the various styles in the costumes according to the different periods were meticulous.

So overall the film Shakuntala Devi had given me a best-satisfying experience because of its wonderful making along with the great story and screenplay, really enjoyed the film. The phenomenal performance of Vidya Balan is a treat to watch which won’t disappoint anyone and definitely a worth watch for the big time, just go for it with your family.
