Southwest monsoon in Kerala; Yellow alert in eight districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has said that the southwest monsoon has arrived in Kerala. Yellow alerts have been issued in eight districts since then. The yellow alert was issued in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts. Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts will also have a yellow alert tomorrow.

Minicoy, Agatti, Thiruvananthapuram, Punalur, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kochi, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Thalassery, Kannur, Kasaragod, and Mangalore received 14 mm of rainfall for at least two consecutive days. Fishermen have been warned to be cautious as strong winds are expected in the Arabian Sea.

The Central Government has ordered a 30 crore dose of Biological-E Covid vaccine

New Delhi: The Central Government has ordered a 30 crore dose of the Biological-E vaccine, the second vaccine developed in India. Production will take place from August to December this year.

The health ministry has said that Rs 1,500 crore for the vaccine will be released in the next few days.Biological E is the second vaccine to be developed after Bharat Biotech’s covaxin.The biological E is for the RBD protein subunit vaccine. The third phase of the vaccine is being tested in India.

The application of Biological E was discussed and approved by the National Expert Group.The press release states that the Central Government has been supporting the experiments of Biological E since the first phase of testing. In addition, Rs 100 crore was given as a grant-in-aid.The money was handed over as part of Mission covid security.There are currently three vaccines available in India. Covaxin, which is developed by India Covisheild of the Serum Institute and Sputnik 5 made in Russia.

The travel ban from India to Oman has been extended again

New Delhi: Oman has been extended the ban on Indian travelers in the wake of the Covid expansion. Oman Supreme Committee has been extended the ban on international flights from India. Besides India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Phillippines, Brazil has been ban from entering Oman, reports said.

A ban has been imposed on the International flight on April 25. And it was extended indefinitely. The travelers directly from India and those who stayed in India for 14 days were also banned, reports said. 

Foreign vaccine; Drugs Controller granting exemptions from norms

New Delhi: The Drugs Controller has granted exemption to norms to ensure availability of foreign vaccines to expedite vaccination in the country. For this, the Drug Controller omitted the indigenous vaccine testing and the permission required by the Central Drugs Laboratory for each batch of vaccine.

Currently, vaccines need to be tested in the country before foreign vaccines can be approved for immediate use. However, the relaxation in the norms was allowed to ensure the availability of the vaccine in the country.

Drug controller exemptions are granted for vaccines approved at various levels, including the FDA in the United States, the European Medicines Agency, the UK MHRA, the PMDA Japan, and the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use List.

Warning of thundershowers in the state

Kochi: The Central Meteorological Department has warned of isolated thunder showers in the state in the coming days.

Yellow alert has been declared in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and Kasaragod districts. Rain warning was issued for Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and five other districts tomorrow and Friday.

Strong winds of up to 50 kmph are expected along the Kerala coast and high waves are likely along the southern Tamil Nadu coast. Fishing has been banned off the coast of Kerala. Earlier, the Central Meteorological Department had forecast southwest monsoon in Kerala tomorrow.

CBSE Plus Two exams has been cancelled in the country

New Delhi: The CBSE Plus Two exams has been cancelled in the country due to Covid expansion. The decision was taken at a meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The CBSE Plus One exam had been canceled earlier. The Plus Two exam was canceled due to the expansion of Covid and the lockdown in the states. Kerala had said that the examination could be held to ensure security.

The Class 10 exams were cancelled and Class 12 exams postponed following the second wave of Covid. The apex court was asked to respond on Thursday to a petition seeking cancellation of the postponed exams. The Prime Minister called the meeting in the wake of this. Ministers Prakash Javadekar and Rajnath Singh also attended the meeting.

More trains in service in the state; MEMU and express trains have resumed

Thiruvananthapuram: Railways has started service of more trains. Several trains were canceled until May 31. Memu and Express trains resumed service after this period.

06013/06014 Alappuzha-Kollam-Alappuzha Memu, 06015/06016 Ernakulam-Alappuzha-Ernakulam Memu and 06017/06018 Shornur-Ernakulam-Shornur Memu will resume service from Tuesday.

The Kochuveli-Nilambur Rajyarani train will leave Kochuveli on Tuesday.06350 Nilambur-Kochuveli train will leave Nilambur on Wednesdays.

Distribution permission for the first batch of Sputnik

New Delhi: The first batch of Sputnik, a Russian – made Covid vaccine, has been approved for distribution. With this, it is hoped that Covid vaccination will be expedited in the country. The Central Drugs Laboratory has given the green light to the first batch of Sputnik vaccines made in India.

Sputnik is currently manufactured in India by six Indian companies. The first batch of Sputnik vaccines, manufactured by Hyderabad-based Hetro Drugs, has been approved for distribution. In April, the Drug Controller approved the Sputnik vaccine for immediate use.
The Russian delegation said that 70 percent of the Sputnik vaccine distributed worldwide comes from India. Indian companies are preparing to produce 85 million doses of the Sputnik vaccine. Russia, meanwhile, has imported 2,10,000 doses of the Sputnik vaccine into India.

By July, one crore people will be vaccinated every day: Center Says

Center allocates more Covid vaccine to states

New Delhi: Center with intensive measures to expedite Covid immunization. According to the Ministry of Health, by July, one crore people will be vaccinated every day. Efforts are also underway to deliver higher doses of foreign vaccines.

The center aims to vaccinate everyone over the age of 18 before the third wave. It is claimed that the vaccination will be completed by December. The Ministry of Health has announced that 12 crore doses of the vaccine will be available this month and one crore doses per day by mid-July. Covishield and Covaxin will increase production.

Cipla, a pharmaceutical company, has asked the center to expedite the delivery of Moderna’s booster vaccine. Concessions should be made on pricing, customs duty, and vaccine testing.

Cipla has also informed the Center that it will sign a Rs 7,250 crore deal with Moderna. Moderna had said that India could be vaccinated next year. The Center has directed the states to increase the number of vaccination centers and to accurately record information on vaccine availability.

Nedunkandam Rajkumar custodial death case; 45 lakh compensation to the family, six policemen dismissed

Kochi: Action against policemen and doctors in Nedunkandam Rajkumar custodial death case. Six policemen will be dismissed from service. Department-level action will be taken against five policemen. Action will be taken against all three doctors. The government has also decided to pay Rs 45 lakh compensation to Rajkumar’s relatives.

The CBI had filed a charge sheet against nine officials, including SI KA Sabu, the first accused in the case. The CBI investigation against former Idukki SP Venugopal, DYSPs Shams, and Abdul Salam, jail staff, and doctors in this case.
