Two more Zika cases confirmed in the state; A total of 21 people were infected with the virus in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George said two more people in the state have been diagnosed with the Zika virus. A 35-year-old resident of Poonthura and a 41-year-old resident of Sasthamangalam were admitted to another private hospital. The Poonthura native was diagnosed with the Zika virus during a test conducted at the virology lab of the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The Sasthamangalam resident was diagnosed with the Zika virus during a test conducted at a Coimbatore lab. The Zika virus test started at the medical college on Monday. Fifteen samples were tested on the first day. One of them was confirmed to have dengue fever. The test results of the remaining 13 are negative. With this, 21 people in the state have been diagnosed with the Zika virus, she said.

The Minister directed the District Medical Officer to visit the spot and intensify preventive measures. Everyone should keep their home and surroundings clean. Homes, surroundings, and institutions must be protected from waterlogging. Indoor plants and refrigerator drain should be cleaned once a week. The minister said everyone should seek treatment for symptoms such as fever, red spots, muscle aches, joint pain, and headaches.

The health department is on high alert in the wake of the discovery of Zika during Covid. Although the mortality rate is low, Sika infection in pregnant women can lead to genetic defects in infants. This will strengthen testing in pregnant women. The health department has also directed hospitals to conduct clear scans on pregnant women to ensure that their babies do not have any genetic defects.

Zika is caused by Aedes mosquitoes that bite during the day. Symptoms of syphilis include fever, headache, body aches, joint pain, and muscle aches. The health department has advised those with these to be prepared for testing. The symptoms will heal quickly. However, the effects of the virus can last up to three months. The Department of Health warns that those preparing to become pregnant and their partners should take precautions in this regard.

New Delhi: The World Health Organization (WHO)’s chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan has said that changing the second dose of the Covid vaccine is a dangerous trend. Soumya Swaminathan said that when the first dose of the vaccine is not available during the second dose, people are more likely to accept the vaccine.

She said it was not possible to say at this time how effective the combination of vaccines from different manufacturers would be as there was no clear study or information available about the covid vaccine. They also warned that the use of mixed vaccines could sometimes do more harm than good.

Soumya Swaminathan added that the problem would be exacerbated if everyone started deciding which vaccine to take and when to take it according to their liking and convenience during the second dose.

Palakkad: Anthrax confirmed in Kerala after Covid and Zika. A wild elephant was found dead on the Palakkad-Coimbatore forest border and confirmed to be infected with anthrax.The blood samples from the dead elephant were sent to the Animal Disease Intelligence Unit (ADIU) for testing. The sample tested positive for Bacillus Anthracis, the bacteria that causes anthrax.Elephant’s body was found in  Anaikatti on the border. The deceased elephant was a female aged about 13-15 years. Its body was found with blood in its nose and mouth. Following this, a vigilance order was issued in the forest areas of Kerala.

Shimla: Three people have been killed in heavy rains and flash floods in Himachal Pradesh. Ten people are missing. Many people, including tourists, are reported to be stranded in various places. Karipur: Two more persons have been arrested in customs custody in connection with the Karipur gold smuggling case. Ajmal, a resident of Panur, and his friend Ashiq were taken into custody.

Ajmal is the son of Sakina of Panur. Sakina was questioned by the customs team yesterday. Two people were taken into custody after this.

The Customs will approach the High Court seeking the Arjun Ayanki in custody. The ACJM court had earlier rejected the custody application.
