Two killed in a tipper lorry crash in Kottayam

Manimala: Two persons were killed when a car collided with a tipper lorry parked in Kottayam. The deceased have been identified as Reshma (30) and Sharon (18) of Vazhoor Ilangoi.

The accident took place in front of the Manimala BSNL office on the Punalur-Muvattupuzha state highway where construction is in progress. There were five people in the car, and the condition of one of the injured was serious.

Workers killed when building slab collapses; Probe has been announced

Kozhikode: An investigation has been announced into the incident where the slab of the building under construction at Kozhikode Thondayad collapsed and the workers died.

Labor Minister V Sivankutty has directed the Labor Commissioner to conduct an inquiry and submit a report.

It has also been directed to look into whether the safety standards have been fully complied with in connection with the construction of the building.

Kozhikode gold smuggling: Two more arrested

Kondotty: Kudukkilpoyil Ijaz (31) from Thamarassery and Mohammad Basheer (47) from Koduvalli was arrested in a case related to gold smuggling at Kozhikode airport.

Ijaz was traveling from Thamarassery in an unmarked car yesterday morning when he was apprehended, police said. Police said that Ijaz had reached Karipur with a group from Thamarassery on the day of the incident and was following the vehicle driven by Arjun Ayanki and others from Kannur.

Mohammad Basheer, 47, a native of Koduvalli, was arrested in Bangalore yesterday in connection with providing accommodation to the accused. So far, 47 people have been arrested. 18 vehicles were also seized.

Diesel prices increased again

Kochi: Diesel prices have gone up again in the country. The price has been hiked by 27 paise per liter. This is the third increase in diesel prices in the last four days.
Thiruvananthapuram has the highest fuel prices in the state. In the capital, diesel costs Rs 96.15 paise per liter. Today’s price is 94 rupees 64 paise in Ernakulam and 94 rupees 55 paise in Kozhikode.

However, petrol prices have not changed for the last 21 days. In Thiruvananthapuram, petrol is priced at Rs 103 15 paise per liter. The fare in Ernakulam is Rs 101.83 and in Kozhikode it is Rs 101.71 paise.

Solidarity with farmers’ Bharat Bandh; The hartal started in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The hartal started in Kerala declaring support for the Bharat Bandh called by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha against the farm laws. The hartal will be held from 6 am to 6 pm. Ruling opposition parties have expressed support for the hartal.

The joint strike committee said milk, newspapers, ambulances, medicine distribution, hospitals, weddings, patient travel, and other essential services were excluded from the hartal. Private vehicles will not be barred. The state government had told the high court that it would ensure freedom of travel.

Canada lifts ban on flights from India

New Delhi: Canada lifts ban on passenger flights from India  The ban was imposed as part of covid’s preventive measures.  This was later extended to September 26th.

 In case the ban is lifted, flights will resume from September 27.  Travelers from India can now travel to Canada with a covid Negative Certificate.  Covid should be tested in an accredited laboratory. The Canadian government said in a statement that flights from India would resume on February 27.  Air Canada flights from India will resume on September 27.  However, Air India flights to Canada will resume only on September 30.

 Those flying directly must produce a Covid Negative Certificate from the Genestrings Laboratory in Delhi. 

The Genestrings Laboratory is located in the Airport Connect Building (ABC) above the Indira Gandhi International Airport Metro Station.  The result of the test is required within 18 hours.  Before boarding the flight, the test results must be shown to the airline authorities.  Previous Covid sufferers can also show test results from any certified laboratory in the country.  Those who do not meet this standard will not be allowed to travel.

 Those traveling on non-direct flights must produce a covid Negative Certificate from a third country.  During the voyage, those affected by the covid will be admitted to the quarantine or deported according to local regulations, officials said.

Maharashtra announces more concessions

Mumbai: Maharashtra announces more concessions in case of a significant decline in the covid spread.  The government has given permission to open cinema theaters and auditoriums in the state.  Theaters and auditoriums will be open from October 22.

It is now planned to open with half the seats.  State government sources said the guidelines would be released next week.

The government had yesterday decided to reopen schools and places of worship.  Later on Saturday, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray met film and theater representatives.  It was after this that the decision to open was made.

Only 50 percent of people are currently allowed to enter.  Admission is restricted to people who have taken two doses of the vaccine.

Covid: Lockdown for 10 days in Srinagar

Srinagar: A strict lockdown has been imposed in Srinagar, Jammu, and Kashmir for 10 days from Friday.  According to the new guidelines, the district administration has allowed shops selling groceries, vegetables, meat, and milk to remain open from 7 am to 11 am. Officials said the curfew was due to an increase in covid cases in Srinagar in the last few days.

 The district magistrate said there would be a strict curfew for 10 days in Sadibal and Lal Bazaar.  In Jammu and Kashmir, 172 new cases of covid virus were reported yesterday.  The number of cases rose to 3,28,590.

Internet and SMS services have been suspended to prevent plagiarism

Jaitpur: In Rajasthan, mobile internet and SMS services have been suspended for 12 hours to prevent candidates from cheating in teacher qualification exams.  Mobile internet and SMS services in 16 districts were suspended for 12 hours today.  Such services have been suspended for the Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers (REET) examination.

About 16 lakh people are appearing for the exam.  The exam is being held for 31,000 vacancies in government schools.  According to reports, internet and SMS services were suspended in Jaipur, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Alwar and Bikaner districts.

Cyclone: 28 train services suspended due to possible damage

New Delhi:  Several train services have been suspended and some diverted following the issuance of alert orders in various states across the country in the wake of cyclone Gulab.  Cyclone Gulab, which formed in the Bay of Bengal, is expected to make landfall between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur this evening.  The southern districts of Odisha are the worst hit.  Vigilance has also been issued in northern Andhra Pradesh.
